On a very deep and personal level, Jake Starr hates being a lone wolf. As much as he touts himself as someone who can handle his own business, deep down he likes knowing someone has his back. Whether he's been on the favorable or unfavorable side of the proverbial "wrestling aisle," this is one constant in his life.
As he has strayed away from his typical public persona, the "era of lonliness" has taken over Jake's life. When Xander Valentine approached Jake about running roughshod over SCW, it was a welcome sight the likes of which Jake had not felt in some time. His mentality was more invigorated. His desire to have the cockiness grew. He didn't feel like he was flying solo in his mission of vengeance anymore. When Xander vanished, Jake was, again, a lone wolf. Then came James Evans, a man Jake had a storied past with. The two never saw eye to eye, but for a moment there seemed to be a glimmer of hope that the two could depend on one another to forge their own paths. Again, it ended in disaster.
This pattern has led Jake to be wary of trying to align himself with others, and even made him wonder if he was the root cause of the vanishing alliances, but when Greg Cherry appeared, Jake felt this was his chance to actually have someone in his corner he could rely on. Initially, everything seemed to be going as to plan. With a string of losses, however, Greg Cherry's confidence has gone south, and led Jake to wonder if he'll be soon flying solo, yet again. This pattern is one Jake has seen in the past from Greg, and by calling him out on it, he had hoped it would light a fire under Greg's ass.
After walking out of the door from the room Jake had "interrogated" Greg in, Jake's cocky and brash persona began to shift into a more concerned and worried one. After making a b-line for his car, he quickly got on the road and headed for the airport. Upon arriving at the airport, Jake is allowed onto the airfield by the private hangers. He drives over to the hanger where the private jet from the Golden Nugget has parked for the time being. He parks his car inside the hanger, and jumps out to grabs his gear from the trunk. After doing so he begins walking toward the jet. At the bottom of the staircase stands Brandon Evena and Thoren Holt, both waiting for Jake to arrive. Jake's focus is solely on getting in the air, while his friends are curious about how the endeavor went.
Thoren Holt: So how'd it all go?
Jake simply tries to brush the question off.
Jake Starr: Well, I wish I knew... How's that sound?
Brandon cocks an eyebrow.
Brandon Evans: Sounds suspicious... What's that mean?
Jake is flustered and just looks at Brandon exhaserbated.
Jake Starr: It means what I said. I wish I had an answer about how it all went, but I don't. The fact is, I walked in there, I laid everything out there at Greg's feet, I told him to decide, and I walked away...
Thoren's mind begins to make inferences as to what Jake just implied.
Thoren Holt: Wow... Really? You just walked away? That's kind of surprising that you'd just walk out on him like that...
Jake pauses, realizing how what he said could have been misconstrued.
Jake Starr: No... I didn't go out there and kick him to the curb or anything...
Brandon almost lets out a sigh of relief.
Brandon Evans: Oh... Good... You made it sound like you told him to hit the bricks...
Jake Starr: Yeah, so I misspoke. Sue me...
Brandon lifts his hand to his chin, as if he's beginning to ponder the idea.
Brandon Evans: Hmm... That may not be a bad idea! I mean, it would be a helluva lot more money than I make being your little "Gopher Boy."
Jake simply rolls his eyes.
Jake Starr: Can it, stupid... C'mon let's get going...
Jake walks over to the luggage compartment at the rear of the aircraft and throws it in there. He then walks over to the stairs and ascends. Thoren and Brandon follow suit, all getting on board and taking their respective seats.
The vagueness from Jake still has Thoren and Brandon confused, since they don't know what happened. As the three sit in relative silence, Jake begins to look at the window. The aircraft begins to move, and Jake's mind remains concerned. This look of concern and confusion is something that Brandon quickly picks up on from knowing his friend like he does. After realizing Jake isn't going to volunteer more information, Brandon breaks the uncomfortable silence.
Brandon Evans: ... So it didn't go well, did it?
Jake doesn't look back and continues to stare out the window, but does respond.
Jake Starr: Like I said, I wish I knew how it went.
Brandon becomes a little more sincere in his inquiry to Jake.
Brandon Evans: Seriously man, what does that mean?
Jake's head slowly begins to turn and look in Brandon's direction.
Jake Starr: Do you honestly know what it's like to be a "cancer?"
Brandon nods lightly.
Brandon Evans: Yeah... That's how we became friends, man. Everyone hated the two of us, and we either were known for running people off, or we got run off ourselves.
Jake Starr: Not like that... Like how I am...
Brandon Evans: What do you mean?
Jake Starr: I mean like I am with people who side with me. Apparently I am a terminal cancer in this industry because ANYONE who stands by my side, ultimately, has this massive change of heart and either retires or turns on me. It's a vicious cycle that I'm fucking sick of. Think about it, man... Jude did it, you did it, Helms and Valentine both did it, Xander did it, that fuckwad James Evans did it, and it's to the point I can see the writing on the wall that Greg's about to do the exact same thing.
Time and time again I go and think that I have found someone who's reliable, and then time and time again, they just seemingly drop like flies. I don't get it. I don't know why I do this to people, but it's becoming less and less easy to handle, mentally.
Thoren tries to chime in and offer his honest thoughts.
Thoren Holt: You ever think that maybe they're just not the "right ones" for the job?
Jake Starr: Have I ever, sure... But it isn't that, honestly. It's like I drain the motivation out of their systems. One minute, we're all rolling and things are going well, but then the next thing I know I'm turning around to find myself flying solo all over again.
Brandon Evans: So does that mean that he's out, then?
Jake's look becomes very solumn.
Jake Starr: Honestly I really don't know... Nothing was really decided on, or discussed, outside of him being completely disappointed and upset about his recent losses. I just stood there and I could just see that fire fizzling out of him in real time, and at points it just wasn't easy to see. I had to really fight to try and keep the "bad cop" persona up to try and get him to dig down deep, and make himself be the Greg Cherry that we all know he can be. I had to push every little button Greg has just to get him to finally let that flame flare up again.
Brandon Evans: Well maybe that just means he doesn't have the same passion that you do, man...
Jake smirks and shakes his head a bit.
Jake Starr: I can tell you that bastard wants to be the best more than almost anyone out there. The problem is that he falls into that same trap that others have, where if they don't win immediately, they run away like a little bitch. In their mind, a single loss makes them think they've lost their edge, can't compete, and want to give up, but I haven't let it get to me. I haven't let myself get down, and I've seen that same road they've all gone down. I want Greg to simply realize he doesn't have to follow it, and trudging through will actually lead somewhere positive. I want him to think about the bigger picture for us both, here.
The fact is, I lost to someone in the Best of the Best tournament, too... Big fucking deal! I've taken losses that I shouldn't have in my life, and yet, I am still here!
Thoren Holt: Maybe Greg just doesn't feel like that...
Jake snipes back vehemently.
Jake Starr: Then the dumbass is short-sighted! The fact is, 9 out of 10 people around these parts are short-sighted. They're all a bunch of bitches because they want their Goddamn instant gratification, and it pisses me off. It annoys the SHIT out of me. And every time one of the people I trust pulls a stunt of short-sightedness, guess what, it effects me, and proves nobody gives a FUCK about Jake Starr because they're too busy thinking about why the world should pity them, instead.
Seriously, where's my pity?
I'm a bastion of mediocrity as far as wins and losses go lately, but I still go out there, and I STILL tell everyone that I can and WILL beat their asses on a moment's notice. I need to get Greg on that same page. I need to make sure the ALMIGHTY Greg Cherry doesn't puss out on me like everyone else has.
We have the fucking momentum on our side! People are looking at the two of us and they KNOW what we are capable of. We HAVE to make sure we capitalize on that momentum, too, or I'm going to be back to flying solo yet again, and like I said, I'm SICK of that bullshit.
So Greg HAS to figure his shit out... He HAS to figure out what he should do...
Thoren Holt: And if he doesn't?
Jake Starr: Plain and simple, if he doesn't, I'm done. I'm done trusting others, and if anyone wants my help, they will have to come PROVE to me that I am not wasting my time. But if Greg makes the right decision then all of this energy I'm wasting is not worth it.
Brandon Evans: Well what does your gut tell you?
Jake sighs again.
Jake Starr: You know, I don't even know...
Jake's head turns and looks out the window as the plane begins its ascension into the sky. Thoren sees this and leans over in Brandon's direction.
Thoren Holt: So what do you think?
Brandon leans in and whispers back.
Brandon Evans: I think Jake's patience has been tested one too many times, honestly. I think he's tired of being the only who is willing to stick it out through the shitty times and the good. Jake's had to be the "Ironman" for too long, and with no help it wears on a man...
Thoren Holt: Yeah, I can only imagine...
Jake knows the two are whispering about the situation, but cannot discern what is being said, nor is he particularly caring. His mind is, instead, focused on wondering what is going to happen next. Deep down, he doesn't know what Greg's decision will be, and what it, in turn, will be the next move for him. The lack of knowing really doesn't sit well with the "Social Misfit," and makes him concerned it's going to hurt his plans to truly rise back up to where he once was.
Jake sings.
Jake Starr: I'm BACK... I'm BACK in the saddle again...
Jake goes to talking normally now.
... Yes, folks, Jake Starr is back on his winning ways, and is now working his way back to the TOP of the SCW power rankings, and SCW World Championship contenders list. With this EVER-SO-TOUGH, and hard fought victory of mine over the LEGENDARY David Miller I have shown the WORLD that I am...
Heh...
Ok so I can't hype it that much. I walked out there and I put David Miller in his place, YET AGAIN! It was something I SAID would happen, and I backed it up. I went out there and put the recent string of bad luck behind me, and it's was quite enjoyable for me. David Miller walked out there with his chest bowed, and was ready to rumble. I mean, did you see that? That man's pecs haven't looked that defined since David Helms was a good guy, the FIRST time around! Miller was out for a fight, and wanted to show the world that he could keep me on, what has really looked to be, the downslope of my career in SCW. He wanted to be the guy to remove ANY sense of doubt from my mind, that my career at the top of the food chain was over.
I mean, did you not hear that guy to start the night off?
Jake goes into his best B. A. Baracus voice.
"I'm tired of all of this chitta-chatta! It's time to fight foo!"
Jake smirks.
The dude legitimately walked out there and tried to sound tough, and say he was going to send me home all battered and bruised. He said he actually HOPED my family would understand why I wasn't going to be in such discomfort, thanks to him. Heh... Here I stand, asshat! Guess whose discomfort really was more due to the really SHITTY Mexican food I had in Idaho... And let that be a lesson to EVERYONE listening. Idaho is THOUSANDS of miles away from Mexico. I don't care how recently those families came from Chihuahua, the Mexican food there will send your bowels into a tailspin. Seriously folks... Shits like you've never imagined!
So Miller, you didn't send me home in discomfort. La Chupas Verdes did!
You simply sent me home wondering why a moron would actually TRY to step up to me when he CLEARLY wasn't ready, nor had the resources. I mean, did you expect Helms and Cruze to come to your aid? Did you expect them to be like, "Yeah man, we got your back dude?" You walked into a match you couldn't have won if you had paid the ref off. It's not because you COULDN'T, but because you were a fucking idiot, and we exploited your pure idiocy! If anything, you sent me home going, "did he REALLY just do something THAT dumb," while I sent you home with a contusion on the side of your head. And hopefully that kick to your head knocked some sense into you for the future. If it didn't, well, I pity your stupidity.
Now, beating an idiot is something that many of you may look at and not see as important as I do. While it's not a marquee victory, and something I'm going to put on my resume, I am, however, a believer in the "Bernie Sanders Theory." Bernie Sanders is out there with no mathematical chance of winning the nomination. But yet, he's still there. He still insists he can win. Then he begins winning states by bigger margins than people expect, and they write it off as, "well the math still isn't there." Truthfully, it's not. But the meaning of those wins means more than the possibility of being a nominee for President of the United States. It means people are hearing a message, and beginning to galvanize in a movement that could carry him into a role far bigger than the Presidency, which in turn means he wins a war far greater than what you see on paper.
So beating Miller means a lot. It means I have some momentum BACK on my side again. It's something people desperately do NOT want me to have, by any stretch of the imagination because it means I'm THAT much more dangerous, and THAT much more likely to pull off a big win. It means that everyone knows I realize there is the possibility that I come out far more ahead than they would want.
Heh... Momentum does a lot for a person, even if it's minor!
So consider me on pace to return to the form I once was. Consider this my turning point. 2015 took me until damn near the end of it before I pulled my thumb out of my ass, and 2016 is NOT going to be the same. 2016 is where I rise up and I take the power back. 2016 is where I put EVERY GOD DAMN PERSON on blast, as the kids say.
And at Breakdown, I begin this defiance of the odds. At Breakdown, I tackle a thorn in the side of my ass since his MAJESTIC and TRIUMPHANT return to SCW after an absence that, let's face it, was more of an extended vacation than anything. At Breakdown, I finally expose the TRUTH that is the mediocrity of Shaun Cruze!
Jake's upper lift quivers, as his annoyance begins to grow.
That's right, everyone, I am walking out into that ring against a guy many consider an unbeatable icon. I am walking out saying I am going to take out a guy who during the 2014 and 2015 years was the PINNACLE of this industry. He was fighting for and winning World Championships, he was showing everyone that he was THE DRIVING FORCE of SCW, but yet he was ALSO the guy who couldn't handle his own business. It was also the guy who had to resort to coming to ME just so he could hopefully not have to be someone else's BITCH, like that tramp he used to ride the coattails of. But yet he stands here, waltzing back into the limelight of SCW's glory, and is fully embraced by everyone as a "White Knight," just coming back to save us from the stagnant revolving door that is the main event.
I tell you, the backstage area was elated. "OH-EM-GEE SHAUN SO GREAT TO SEE YOU," followed by repeated lines of people ready to suckle at his prepubescent penis. It was DISGUSTING... Well the constant praise, not the suckling part, that was just funny to see everyone so enamored with a guy who bailed on them. All of these bitches in the back acted like abused women, all in dire need of acceptance from the guy they just sent away to prison for bitch slapping them, were just gaffawing all over him, and it irritated the fuck out of me. The guy who had to come begging, pleading, and CRAWLING to me, to protect he and Kelcey Wallace from being Silas Mason's bitch again, was beloved by those he alienated. And here I stood. I stood there as a guy who has been loyal and never "needed a break." I have never taken my ball and gone home.
But what in the FUCK have I gotten out of it?
You hear people trying this "poor me," and "nobody respects me," shtick all the time. But it's all centered around normal tired arguments, but here I stand, always having to "wait in line," and if I get something, everyone loses their shit. Sure, I have pissed people off, but you'd think that these people who were told to fuck off by those who just abandon them would realize that some of us still stick around. You would think that these people worshiping the ground Cruze walks on would tip their hat my way once in a while.
But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
What do people do? People bitch about ANYTHING GOOD I get. People bitch about ANY opportunites I receive. People bitch about ANY FUCKING THING related to Jake Starr, and I have to endure it, while fucks like Shaun Cruze get jerked off by everyone else. All of this happens, and I'm supposed to stand around and be ok with it. I'm supposed to ALLOW it to happen, and somehow accept that it's my own fault? People don't like me, so they're going to cry to mommy?
Well guess what... Mommy is going to be a great disappointment!
I have sat back and dealt with this horseshit for too long. I have accepted blame, listened to people whine, and watched people kiss ass long enough to get fed up, and when I saw Cruze get pandered to, I decided it was time to show the world what happens when you piss me the FUCK off. I decided it was time to take the golden child and show the world what happens when you DON'T give me the respect I deserve. I decided to show the world what happens when I take your hopes and dreams of this White Knight and watch them shrivel and die like a slug covered by salt! I went out there and I took Cruze out. I watched him, essentially, BEG and PLEAD for me to have mercy on him. He felt the chair shot, and knew he couldn't handle much more.
But something happened after that...
The retard lost more brain cells because he came after me!
Yep... Shaun Cruze tried to be big, bad, muscle, man like David Miller, and brought Daddy's Little Boy with him. He started running his mouth on Twitter, and started acting like he was a GOD all over again. He wanted me and the WORLD to believe that Shaun Cruze is fucking invinceable. I don't buy that horseshit for one fucking second. This guy is a lot of talk, even more so than I am, and he expects me to buy into his nonsense.
Well too bad, peckerhead, I am not buying into jack SHIT!
Shaun, you bit off more than you could chew when you actually had the BALLS to come back after me. You had a PERFECT opportunity to simply accept the beating I put on you, like a grown man, and go enjoy your free felatio from all of your little worshipers, but instead you thought you'd be Mister Big Shot. Well it's just too bad being Mister Big Shot is going to land your ass in an emergency room, or possibly in a vegitative state because after everything is said and done, THAT is where I'm leaving you. I'm NOT taking it easy on you... I'm NOT being nice... I'm NOT going out there trying to show the world how great of a wrestler I am...
I'M GOING OUT THERE TO BEAT YOUR FUCKING ASS!
You are the EPITOME of what has held me back in this organization. Guys like you, who go and come as they please, get everything. Time and time again you are the ones who are just lavished in praise and opportunity, while I stand around, keeping this damn place afloat. You are such a fair-weather competitor it makes me sick! Deep down, you know how you are, and you enjoy it. You enjoy being able to do as you please, and work when you want, but it's time to put all of that BULLSHIT to rest. It's time for those of us who grind day-in and day-out to be front and center. It's time for guys like me, the SINGLE MOST UNDERAPPRECIATED GUY IN SCW, to get his just due, and you're demise will be that. I thought when I was the one who ended the run of Silas Mason, I would get it, but no. You and Kelcey continued to act like pompous asses. You leave, come back, and you're still a tool. So I'm going to give you what I feel you deserve!
Now I know you're going to tout yourself, and say how wonderful you are. I know you're going to say how you have the backing of, basically, SCW's own Elvis impersonator looking after your well-being. Oh whoopedie-doo! You could bring the fucking Spanish Armada for all I care. I know what you're capable of, Shaun, and I've seen it time and time again. I have seen you showcase your ups and downs. I have seen you show how you can be dominant. But one thing is for sure... You have NEVER crossed paths with Jake Starr at the top of his game, and at Breakdown I swear to God him/herself, THAT is what you will get. You won't get a shell. You won't get a fraction. You will get every IOTA of my being all ready to take you down.
Why?
Because it will prove a point. Because it will continue to give me the momentum I DESERVE. You are an icon here, and I was. I freely admit it. I freely admit I am not where you are on the popularity scale, but I damn sure won't EVER say you're better than me. I'm not here to be popular. I'm here to be the best. Not by some tournament standard, but by holding the most coveted championship in this fucking business again. You are someone people believe is "at that level," and nobody thinks I can actually beat you. Well guess what... WHEN I beat you, everyone will take notice. Everyone's eyes will widen. Everyone will realize that you aren't all high and mighty. If you're lucky, however, everyone will actually get to see you again. You may not get to see them, depending on my mood, but I'll at least leave you breathing long enough for everyone to pay their final respects...
Jake smirks.
... See... I'm not all bad!
