Since Violence in Vegas, the world has been curious about the actions of Jake Starr. It shocked the world to see him not even attempt to make the save on James Evans, and instead walk out, and leave Evans for dead. For those who knew Jake, this was out of character. Jake has always been one who has wanted to end up on top, and be able to laugh in the face of those who questioned his abilities. In the case of Autumn Valentine and Gable Winchester, who basically did just that before the match happened, Jake didn't bat an eye, and just left.
Some wonder if this was Jake's way of simply getting back at Evans, after Evans did nothing to try and stop the count when Autumn and Gable won the Tag Titles to begin with. Some also wonder if Jake simply didn't want to risk taking the fall himself. The questions surrounding Jake's actions have been in the minds of many as of late, and no real definitive answers have come about from Jake himself. Instead of fully addressing only the way he can, Jake opted to retreat home, to Des Moines, and regroup for the next steps in his quest back to the top. He knew the world would be curious, and he knew he would ultimately explain himself, but for now, the time just wasn't right. Now was time for him to get home, and get his head on straight.
After a day of letting the bumps and bruises heal, and breath of fresh air came about with a warm front coming through the Des Moines area. Jake, still realing from the bombshell Roeper dropped on him, about wanting another baby, decided maybe it was time to get into an environment where he could process the reality of the situation, and potentially talk with someone who may better understand what would be the "right move" for him to make. He decided it was time for he and Mara to take a little outing together, and he offers to take her out to the park for a little playtime. Roeper hears this and thinks it'll be a great experience for the two of them, and knowing it would give her some alone time for herself, she is quickly all for it. After a hug and kiss from both daughter and husband, Roeper watches the two set off for a local park, not far from their house.
As the two get to the park, Mara dashed off to the playground, and Jake sits down on a bench right beside it. Several other families are also partaking of the positive weather, and to avoid unwanted attention to himself, Jake has worn a hoodie and a pair of sunglasses, all to try and give himself the idea of anonymity. Mara, seemingly full of pure energy, runs from one side of the play place to the other, and loves to look over and see her dad there watching her. It's a nice change from always seeing her mom, and gives her some extra "daddy/daughter date time." For Jake, just getting to watch his daughter have fun. As he continues to enjoy one of life's simple pleasures, a figure approaches from behind him. The man stops at the other end of the bench from Jake, and simply utters a few words to get his attention.
Voice: You look like The Unibomber... I'm just saying...
Jake smirks, and immediately recognizes the voice.
Jake Starr: Yeah, well, the only difference between he and I is the fact I'm not sketched on a sheet of paper, now am I?
The figure chuckles, and walks around and sits down next to Jake, revealing himself to be Jake's long time friend, Shawn Wright. The two have not seen each other since Jake cornered all of his compatriots and told them to "resume their role." When Jake realized he'd be in Shawn's neighborhood, he reached out to his friend to see if they could pow wow, which surprised Shawn. He wasn't expecting a request to meet with Jake, but was definitely antsy to oblige. Shawn has continuously heard from others that Jake has come back to a more normal demeanor, but takes it with a grain of salt. He wants to see it for himself, and hopes this is when he can believe what others have relayed to him.
As the two sit on the bench, Shawn looks over and sees his "niece" galavanting about, happy as a clam. She sees him and waves, and he waves back.
Shawn Wright: Man, she's growing!
Jake Starr: Yeah, no shit... It's crazy to see how big she's getting. Every time I go on the road, when I come back I feel like she's grown a foot.
Shawn Wright: Oh, I can imagine... Our little one is growing like a weed, but I don't see it as much until the clothes just don't fit anymore. But it is fun to know that they're growing, and see it happen. I mean, watching them turn into a person from this tiny human is sometimes pretty unbelievable.
Jake Starr: Yeah... Just wait until they mimic you, and you hear, "oh fuck," come out of their mouth.
Shawn chuckles, and the two both just watch as Mara plays. Shawn sits there waiting for Jake to open up about what is going on, and instead of hearing him come out with it, he hears silence. This continues for a few moments, until Shawn has to get answers himself.
Shawn Wright: ... So what's going on? Did you want to talk about something, or did you just want someone on a bench next to you, like Forrest Gump?
Jake smirks.
Jake Starr: Yeah... No... I have a reason... I'm in a bit of a conundrum at the moment...
Before Jake can actually talk about what's troubling him, Shawn can't resist chiming in with a thought of his own.
Shawn Wright: I'm telling you, man, taking penis is nothing like using a vagina. Don't even THINK about playing for the other team, now...
Jake's head slumps, and he chuckles.
Jake Starr: Yeah you and that wet dream of me playing for the other team is still just a dream, man...
Shawn Wright: Yeah, well I'll never give up hope...
The two laugh, but Shawn presses Jake more.
Shawn Wright: So really... What's up?
Jake sighs.
Jake Starr: Roeper wants another kid...
Shawn Wright: Oh... She finally brought it up with you?
Jake smirks.
Jake Starr: Yeah I kind of figured you already knew...
Shawn Wright: What? You're surprised?
Jake Starr: No... Roeper and Roxie tell one another EVERYTHING. I'm surprised you haven't heard details about my sex life that you don't want to hear about.
Shawn Wright: Oh believe me, I have! But not from them! You aren't real quiet about your sexual deviations, and for some reason think I want to know.
Jake chuckles.
Jake Starr: Oh shut up... Anyway, when she brought it up to me, it seemed way out of left field. I wasn't expecting anything like it, that's for sure...
Shawn Wright: Yeah, Roxie's been talking about it more, lately, as well.
Jake Starr: Yeah, well, you two are in more of a positive position to do it, than we are, I would say...
Shawn Wright: Why? Is everything OK between you two?
Jake Starr: Oh yeah... I didn't mean it like that. I meant it in the way that I'm a walking clusterfuck half of the time...
Shawn can't wait to interject again.
Shawn Wright: Only half?
Jake's head falls again, knowing he walked right into that one.
Jake Starr: But seriously... You and Roxie are in a position of stability. You're home all of the time, and so is Roxie. You two lead "normal people" lives, while I'm on the fucking road all of the time. Roeper then has to try and do things on her own, and it's not a situation that seems very fair to her.
Shawn Wright: Seriously, man... When has she EVER been told to fend for herself? We both know that your family has ALWAYS been there to help bail her out and lend a hand. Hell, your mom was basically living at your house until Mara was born, and even after that, she stayed for a while until Roeper was truly comfortable. She had support, man. And if you decide to do it again, she'll have support again, maybe even more since you and Ron aren't always at one another's throat.
Jake Starr: Yeah, you're probably right, but I just don't know. It's been hard to wrap my mind around, lately. I mean, we all know I've wanted more kids and all, but I worry that there's some kind of underlying reason for my hesitation that I'm just not aware of...
Shawn Wright: So what you're saying is that you're basically paranoid?
Jake Starr: Yeah, probably. I don't know what about though. I don't think I have a reason to be. I try to sit back and block out the distractions or problems to keep my mind focused on everything that really matters...
Shawn Wright: And that's good... But if you're having reservations there has GOT to be a reason, though... That is something you need to figure out and answer before you can figure out if you're ready for another version of you running around this world.
Jake looks up at Mara.
Jake Starr: ... And then there's here. She wants a sibling, too. And I almost feel like I have to be ok with it, just because she wants it. I've been such a dick to my own daughter too much, and I can't even rationalize it.
Shawn begins to realize that this truly is his long time friend beside him, grappling with these issues.
Shawn Wright: You haven't been a dick, man... You went through a rough patch of time, yes, when you lost who you were as a person. It happens to people. You are so fucking passionate about this business that sometimes shit happens. Everyone who knows you AS A PERSON knew it was ultimately a matter of time before you came to your senses again. And you can't let a few months of you being AWOL completely derail you, and make you think that you're no longer the man who brought Mara Jade into this world.
Jake Starr: Well how can I be sure I wasn't just lucky?
Shawn Wright: You did get lucky, man. Everyone who has a kid gets lucky. Children who ultimately turn out to be complete shitheads are products of shitty parents.
Jake Starr: That's supposed to HELP my confidence? I'm a shithead, dude...
Shawn laughs.
Shawn Wright: Yeah but the kind of shithead that you are, everyone could benefit from, to a degree...
Jake Starr: Only until they get suspended for telling the teacher to fuck off...
Shawn Wright: Yeah, well...
Jake Starr: I just wish I could figure out what the best course of action was...
Shawn Wright: Well why not just go for it? I mean, I'm in the same boat as you, but Roxie has been nagging me enough to where I'm almost convinced that we should do it. Hell, then they can be preggo together!
Jake turns his head and looks at him.
Jake Starr: And you REALLY think that's a good idea?
Shawn Wright: Could be fun...
Jake Starr: Yeah, it'd make our lives miserable. Think about it, two pissy-ass pregnant women together would just be one GRAND OLE TIME for the two of us.
Shawn Wright: Well, we'd at least suffer together...
Jake Starr: Yeah, and when I'm on the road, you'd be responsible for BOTH of them!
Shawn pauses.
Shawn Wright: ... Yeah, I didn't think about that one... Pass!
Jake Starr: Oh no! You already volunteered for that role...
Shawn just leans back onto the bench, while Jake smirks.
Shawn Wright: ... Oh fuck off...
Jake begins to laugh, and leans back himself. Talking to Shawn has been an eye opening moment for Jake, knowing his friend is in the same boat as he is. He also knows that if he and Roeper are really going to look at expanding their family, not only will she need the support structure, he will need support as well. If he can reliably confide in many of his closes comerades, the idea becomes less intimidating than if he is flying completely solo. Overall the idea is slowly becoming more endearing to Jake, but he needs to mentally understand his own reservations before committing. While the process of making a baby is one he would enjoy on a regular basis, the end result is one he's not sure if they're ready for.
Jake Starr: Hello everyone. I know that, like me, you're happy to see me on your screen today. I know that it makes your day, knowing that Jake Starr is here to actually tell you what the fuck is going on the world, and not sugar coat it like some of the half-wits around here do. For that, you're welcome. Today is one of those days where I need to ensure that I answer some pertinent questions that I know the SCW masses have for me. I know the world is sitting there DESPERATELY wondering about Jake Starr and his actions. So like a good samaritin, I will answer those inquiries. I will explain myself. I will end the confusion and help bring clarity to the world in which we all live in.
Why?
Because... Well... I love you!
Jake smirks.
Oh who am I kidding? I just love hearing myself talk!
The fact is, nobody can quite comprehend what happened in Las Vegas. Nobody can quite comprehend why Jake Starr would watch his own partner get pinned, and not make the save. It is something that goes against all conventional wisdom of who Jake Starr is. Jake Starr is a self-centered, egotistical, title hungry, asshole. And we all know this well! So why wouldn't I make the save? Why wouldn't I do the very thing that I lambasted James Evans about?
Jake chuckles.
In a nutshell it's because he didn't deserve it. He deserved the humiliation. He deserved to be the guy who watched his current iteration of hopes and dreams flutter into oblivion all because he wasn't true to his word with me. He wasn't honest. He wasn't genuine. He was so self-absorbed about trying to find his "easy way" to the top, he ditched me like a high school tramp who got a shot to fuck the star of the football team. It became about him. It wasn't about the big picture, and so, I figured I would let that very moment be just about him. I figured I would give him the HONOR of being the guy everyone got to watch lose. I figured he would RELISH the moment to have everything be about him again.
It's like I was being utterly kind to him, really...
I mean I gave James Evans what he wanted. He wanted to be in the spotlight, so I figured, why take that moment away from him? Why not let the world see him for what he is?
Jake's intensity starts to pick up.
... And even more importantly, why should I EVER give ANYONE the chance to put that piece of SHIT's name in the same context with me again? Seriously? People wonder why I really did what I did? It's simple... I wasn't about to entrust a title reign to him. I wasn't about to give him the SATISFACTION of knowing he was partner's with Jake Starr. Those two dimwits who hold the Tag Team Championships are the only reason he was even involved in that match because I can tell you that if they hadn't done so, I would have found someone a little less flaky. I would have found someone who may not have liked me, but would have realized the IMPORTANCE of the opportunities I could bring to the table, and would have carried their end of the bargain. So when I saw him getting pinned, my instinct was to save him. But then I realized what I would potentially be getting myself more into. I would have to continue to deal with the HEADACHE that is James Evans, and I would just as soon enjoy my life than to have to deal with that any longer than I needed to anymore.
So there you have it. Mystery solved. Questions answered! Jake Starr was completely done with James Evans, and sometimes it's easier to just "take one for the team," and know that the war will ultimately be won regardless. Besides... One casualty never decided a war. And we all know James well enough to know he'll find a way to get back in front of us and want another chance at disappointing himself. But as far as I'm concerned, this the last time I purposefully cross his path. I'm done with him. He can go about his life, fucking those two overrated twats, and I'll simply sit here and wonder when he'll piss one of them off, and every tweet about him will be like Amber Rose's and have the hashtag, #FingersInTheBootyAssBitch.
Ahh...
Phew...
Now that the burden of James Evans is out of the way, I can finally move forward in SCW, and in life, to things that are more important... Like ME! Breakdown brought the announcement of the return of the Trios Tournament to this years bevvy of wrestling excitement. With the Trios Tournament comes the idea of partnering random individuals together with the idea that they all are greedy fucks, and want to win. Such is the case this year. I mean look at "Team Surprise We're Back for Trios," which consists of "Tons O Fun" Greg Cherry, Shaun "Hey Remember Me?" Cruze, and Amy Chastaine, who, full disclosure, actually isn't someone returning just for a chance at immediate glory... You have Katie Steward teaming with two women who she'll be pissed if they overshadow her, and you have Syren teaming with Angelica Jones and someone else I legitimately don't know... But then you have a partnership that, honestly, intrigues me to a point.
You have MY team.
While I look at the trio and I see some guy whom I have no clue about, I do see a name that I'm quite familiar with. I see Ace Marshall. I see someone whose ego is one of the FEW that rivals mine. I see someone who I realize I don't like and don't get along with by any means, but I feel we may understand one another. He's a cocky son of a bitch, I'm a cocky son of a bitch. I'm married with a kid, he fucks anything with a vagina, or who at least claims to have one. So it's one of those things where we know what to expect. We don't have to like one another. Fuck... I won this damn tournament with Syren, and that drunk bitch and I can't stand one another... So I think fuck boy and I will make it work for a couple matches, and go on with it...
Jake slowly shifts to a topic that is more "immediate" than the Trios Tournament.
... But before the walking VD and I go out there and win ourselves a date with destiny, let me be abundantly clear where my focus lies. Before these teams were announced, my focus was solely on the Shot of Adrenaline Tournament. It was there because of what it still represents for me, and my ressurgence back to the top of SCW. It is my beginning. It is my first step. It's not a stepping stone, but it is definitely a stone I must stand on before I can go any further.
So far, there are a lot of people in this match who have had more matches than I have. Because these yokels have had more matches, I am forced to see them higher on the leaderboard than I am. Now, while I know I will be facing them, and be showing the world why this tournament belongs to me, they still have more points, and I have to see them as "beating me," right now. I don't like that view. I don't like seeing someone ahead of me, for any reason, and I will be fixing that as soon as possible. And that correction begins at Breakdown with another individual who is simply ripe for the picking, Felicity Shagwell... I mean Lansing... Sorry... Whatever her name is!
When I roll into Breakdown, my focus isn't going to be on the Trios Tournament. While it's in the back of my mind, the front of my mind is focused on reclaiming the title I made prominent in SCW. I want to climb back to the top of MY MOUNTAIN, and shut all of these people up, who think for ONE SECOND some other broad was able to do more with it than I did. She tarnished a reputation I worked to build up, and it's time for a cleansing. It's time to show the world what a TRUE CHAMPION looks like because in SCW, that is few and far between.
Jake makes the "Home Alone" face by putting both hands on his cheeks, and exclaims in a very sarcastic manner.
OMG JAKE INSULTED THE CHAMPS! HE HAS NO RESPECT! BURN HIM AT THE STAKE!
Jake lowers his hands and smirks.
Oh fuck you all and your sensitivity. I'm cocky, brash, and tell you EXACTLY what I am thinking, and if you don't like it, grease up a rolling pin, turn it sideways, and sit on it. Spin a little, for all I care. The fact is, SCW forgets what it's like to have someone like me as champion. Every time I've had something around my waist it's been defended against ANYONE and EVERYONE, and yet I see a lot of people who make excuses about who they face. Hell, our illustrious Tag Team Champions didn't want to give me a chance because I had "gotten one already?" They neglected to mention how they weaseled their way into those titles, but yet were going to criticize me? Merrick Wiseman, once a bastion of the "letter of the law," is now doing what he can to simply win? Folks, hypocrites like this are all around us. This tournament I'm in for the Shot of Adrenaline, it's BLANKETED with them. Which is why this means a lot to me.
This Keri Russell wannabe is stepping into my world, and trying to do everything in her power to prove to one of her grand mentors, Donovan Kayl, that she is capable of being something special in this business. But yet, in this tournament, time after time she's fallen short. She's looked a bit outclassed. And while it's cute to THINK you can be an "Adrenaline Junkie," and step up to the likes of, oh I don't know, ME, reality is a bitch sometimes. Each time she's walked out there to showcase her talents in this tournament she's been forced to walk back to the locker room with her head down in shame. Reality sinks in every time, yet she bumbles her way back down the aisle and tries again. You have to admire the drive. And you have to think that she is really showcasing how determined she is to succeed, but determination can only carry someone so far. Especially when they have never grasped the brass ring to start with. Sure, it's possible to have a springboard moment, but who in their right fucking mind thinks it would be against your's truly?
I mean, seriously, folks?!
Jake begins to get a little annoyed.
Do you all have a case of "Dumbfuckery-itis?" Do you not realize WHO I AM?! Do you all HAVE to walk around just ASSUMING that I'm going to screw up sometime? I mean when is that determination idea going to apply to me? When are people going to praise the fact I am out there BUSTING MY ASS to prove I'm still the best fucking thing here, and not just brush me off? The fact is, they won't. It's too easy for them to be complete hypocrites, and bash me. It's too easy to be on the, "I hate Jake Starr" BANDWAGON, and not admit I have stepped by up and begun to push forward. Well folks... That DISRESPECT is going to come back to haunt you. Each time I hear someone else getting praise OVER me, or being seen as someone who will BREAK OUT against me, I am going to remember it. I am going to think about it. I am going to remind myself of who said it, and then look around at just WHO those people love so dearly. I want to find people they want to make famous, or watch succed, and I want to END them. I want them to watch their friends and loved ones FAIL. I want them to see this downward spiral begin, and remember it was Jake Starr who kicked it off!
Don't think I can?
Need I remind you about how I did JUST THAT against David Helms, during his "ME ME ME" tour?
I can take the heroes and bring them to REALITY. I am the reality nobody wants to face, and Felicity will be ANOTHER example of why Jake Starr is a VERY HARSH FUCKING REALITY! She will be beaten, battered, bruised, and broken! She will have to come to grips with the fact she will be not even make the middle of the pack in this tournament, since she's ALREADY mathematically eliminated. She will understand that the role of "spoiler" will not be hers, but mine, reminding her of who truly EMBODIES and DEFINES the word "Adrenaline." And after it's all over, I'll sit back, and I'll listen. I'll listen to the grumbles, and the bitching, and the pissy attitudes toward me. I'll listen to them all talk about how it'll be the next person, or the next, that takes me down and reminds me of my spot in the "pecking order," and this cycle of disappointment for these DICKS will continue.
Face it... Jake Starr is back.
Face it... Jake Starr is rising.
Face it... You're all going to cry like little bitches, and I'll stand their smiling because depressing others is something I, honestly, get jollies from.
Jake shrugs, and smirks.
What can I say, breaking hearts is EASY to do!
