The world watched with excitement as Jake Starr beat the hell out of Silas Mason, and effectively put the pretty little bow on a long and tiresome war between the two. It was concluded with an epic Shooting Five Starr from way atop the steel cage, which brought many memories back, of Jake Starr's days as the king of the Adrenaline Division. For Jake, it was also kind of a bittersweet victory as well. Since Rise to Greatness, Silas Mason has been Jake's primary adversary. He has been that constant thorn in Jake's side, and now that it's all over, Jake has concerns that maybe it could spell a period of time where there just isn't much there for him to do.
He worries that could have been his major curtain call.
Even with that worry, it doesn't stop the former World Champion from continuing to want to trudge forward. He knows that he isn't currently "in the mix" for any title shots, but in his mind, it doesn't mean he can't get there. 2014 was another low year for Jake, as far as opportunities went. But Jake knows that unlike 2011, where it was just a down year, 2014 had several high moments. Aside from pummeling Silas, he won the United States Championship, completing the highly sought after SCW Supreme Championship, won the Trios Tournament, and cashed in said Trios contract at Rise to Greatness. All in all, Jake felt it was a successful year, but still feels there could have been more for him.
That's why he's looking ahead to 2015 to be another marquee year for him. He has high aspirations, and wants to ensure that when it comes down to the end of the year voting for 2015, he has an opportunity to claim his second "Male Superstar of the Year" award.
But he also realizes there is a little of 2014 still left to contend with, and there are chances that he could close out the year with as much of a tremor as he started the year off with, at War of the Roses. He knows that the biggest hurdle he's ever faced stands in his way at Breakdown, and he knows if he can FINALLY get over it, it would reverberate through the rankings. He also knows that with Silas out of sight and out of mind, he has another task at hand, and that is continuing to try and help Thören find his path in the business, as he says he wants to do. Jake knows that Thören will need to continue to see everything that goes on both in the ring and behind the scenes, to truly cipher how he wants to approach this business for himself. For Thören, he finally is coming to the realization Jake isn't "molding" him in his own image. It's a realization that humbles him, and makes him actually want to learn from Jake. At the same time, he still does have that desire to have a legacy that usurps that of his uncle.
After delivering his "ode to Silas" speech at Breakdown, and in a sense, calling for a Women's Championship match, Jake and Thören headed back to the locker room, and quickly realized their night was done. Jake didn't intend for it to be an "early night," but he understands that sometimes that just happens. As the show continues inside the PNC Arena, Jake, Thören, and Brandon are all packing up their belongings from the dressing room. Thören is still gushing about everything that happened with Jake and Silas inside that ring, and is not quiet about his excitement about the outcome.
Thören Holt: Dude... I still can't get over how epic it was to see you come crashing down on his ass, like that... He fucking deserved it! I mean, for a couple moments I was kind of jealous that I didn't get to do it, but I started to realize that my place was ensuring that the "help" didn't decide they were going to screw us out of our moment. I realized I didn't need to get involved, and possibly jack everything up...
Jake Starr: You wouldn't have... Honestly, I kind of feel back because I promised you your chance to get your hands on his ass, too, and I can honestly say I don't know if it is going to happen or not.
Thören Holt: Eh... No worries there... I got a few licks in before that match, anyway. Shit, I'm not even a contracted wrestler here, anyway. The suits wouldn't have put Silas in some kind of match, sanctioned or not, with a guy like me, knowing I'd have NO QUALMS about leaving his ass in bits and pieces. Those guys HAD to show him some fucking mercy. They KNEW that you wouldn't completely murder him. They realized they had to let you beat his ass, but they couldn't put him in a situation where his life would be in jeopardy, like it would have been with me. I have no shame. I have nothing to lose, and shit, I would have had everything to gain from ending him, anyway...
Jake chuckles.
Jake Starr: ... I don't know... Maybe... Ultimately it does feel like I didn't give you your rightful shot at him...
Thören Holt: Don't worry about it... But...
Thören pauses, and takes a breath.
Thören Holt: ... I did kind of want to ask you a serious question, though...
Jake cocks an eyebrow, and looks up at Thören. He sees a little bit of distress on Thören's face, and immediately sets down his backpack, which he had thrown over his shoulder. He wants to give Thören his undivided attention, seeing that this has definitely caused an alteration to his mood. Thören sees this gesture of respect, and realizes Jake isn't going to make him "walk and talk," but rather show Thören the courtesy someone deserves in addressing this "serious question." It is something that makes Thören feel even more trustworthy in Jake, as he sees Jake as taking him more and more seriously.
Thören lets out another sigh and gulps a bit. Jake is very curious what could have gotten Thören this choked up, and made him have such reservations in speaking. Thören finally looks Jake in the eye, and continues.
Thören Holt: You know, last week when we were out there, and after Silas chicken-shitted out of the match, I began to feel something inside... For the first time, I felt the crowd, man. I felt like they were part of something bigger, as they started getting amped up. I felt like I was a part of it, too. I felt like these were "my people," and I've never felt that before.
Jake nods slowly, completely comprehending the feeling.
Thören Holt: ... It was something that truly made me realize who I was... Honestly... I felt like a Misfit... I realized I want to be a Misfit... I believe that I am a Misfit... I just believe that is who I am, so honestly, I want to know how I can become a member of the group.
Jake cocks an eyebrow, which is immediately seen by Thören.
Thören Holt: I'm serious, man... What do I need to do to become a full-fledged member? I know it's where I belong...
Jake smiles, and puts one hand on Thören's shoulder.
Jake Starr: Dude... You don't have to become a member...
Thören interprets this as a denial of his request, and tries to convince Jake, still.
Thören Holt: But... I want it, though, man... I can see why you have followed that path, and that mentality. You got to lead an army, and have everyone following and singing your praises, and that's a banner I'd like, too. I'd like to have people singing my praises, and following me, too.
Jake Starr: Thören, it's not that, it's...
Thören cuts Jake off before he can finish.
Thören Holt: Then why can't I be a member?
Jake chuckles.
Jake Starr: Because there is no real "membership" to it, that you have to do any kind of applying for. That's not what being a Social Misfit is about. It's not a group that we founded on having a "membership" to. It was something we founded because we wanted to do things our way, and that's why fans have embraced it. It wasn't about being "part of the group," as much as it was finding that "outcast" inside you, who didn't fit in, and simply telling those who said you didn't belong to fuck off.
It's a completely personal choice, man...
If you feel like that is who you are, if you feel like someone out there is telling you that what you're doing isn't right, and you should follow another path, then you already are one. See, Brandon, Jude, and I, we all were getting pissed off at the politics of this business. A lot of suits were telling us we had to behave a certain way, or get completely buried. Hell, one organization threatened to fire me if I didn't issue an apology for mocking someone, and them LEGITIMATELY crying about it. We said fuck it, and we decided we would make our own rules, we wouldn't conform to the norms of this business, and we would do things our way. We didn't belong anywhere. We were, truthfully, Social Misfits. The three of us, we weren't anywhere near "compatible" personalities on the surface. Jude is a 7 foot monster, who simply loved to brutalize people... Brandon was the party animal... I was the resident asshole... If you looked at us on the surface, you wouldn't have paired us together, but it was because we didn't "fit in" that we bonded. We all respected the other's individuality, but did so as a collective. We realized there was a strength in numbers, and if we wanted to fuck people over, who did it to us, we couldn't do it alone, and that's what we did. We didn't have any kind of hierarchy. We didn't say you had to do such-and-such to be a member. We simply were who we were, and we watched out for one another. We didn't have to question why someone else would approach a situation differently because we knew they had their reasons, and their methods...
... And hell, David Helms is a WONDERFUL example of that, in action!
David and I were completely polar opposites, on how we liked to deal with oppression. We saw the world COMPLETELY differently from one another. He was the bastion of good. He wanted to approach everything in the "proper" and "right" way... And he did so. Me, on the other hand, everyone knows I'm nothing like that. People knew I was willing to beat anyone up, simply to make a point, and get what I want. It's a difference of opinion that he and I never saw eye to eye on. We never agreed on the "hows" or the "whys," and simply respected one another enough to understand that they were doing what needed to be done to achieve their respective goals. We didn't have to like how the others did their bidding, but we had to trust that they would be there if it turned into some kind of group war.
So if you want to be a Misfit, and you think you're part of that group, then you're a part of it. It's not about asking permission. Shit, Greg Cherry basically inducted himself into The Brotherhood, and we never OK'ed that. You just need to understand that if you do it, you have to go out there and embrace the fact you don't fit in. Those fans, that energy, that comes when you commit to it. If you half-ass it, the people will see it, and completely ignore you. They won't give you anything to feed off of. You have to be all in, and you have to embrace that you are simply unique...
Thören is a bit shocked at the revelation.
Thören Holt: Really?
Jake nods.
Jake Starr: Yeah... Really... We aren't just another "stable" or "faction" in pro wrestling. Those are a dime-a-dozen. They come and go like a fart in the wind, but we have stayed around. This is a lifestyle, and it is something that burns inside of you. NOBODY has ever been able to extinguish that fire, and that night, when I was on top of that cage, it was a fucking INFERNO. It's about being proud of who you are, and not giving two fucks about whether or not people like it.
Thören smirks, and nods. As he goes to reply, there is a knock at door of the dressing room. Brandon walks over and opens it, and a man in a suit walks in with two "orderlies" from a hospital closely behind him. The "orderlies" remain silent, as the man speaks.
Man: Which one of you gentlemen is Thören Holt?
Thören looks at him and cocks an eyebrow.
Brandon Evans: Me... Why?
Man: By the order of the State of North Carolina, you are hereby being placed in an involuntary 72 hour psychiatric hold.
The orderlies walk up behind Thören to "escort" him. Everyone in the room is shocked.
Thören Holt: What in the hell?! I am not going anywhere!
Man: Sir, you do not have a choice in this manner. The order has been served, and these two men will be escorting you to Holly Hill Hospital for evaluation.
The man has been holding the legal paperwork for the court order, and Jake snatches it out of his hand to read. As he scans it over, Thören stares at Jake. Jake quickly realizes the paperwork is legit, and then looks back at the man.
Jake Starr: What in the hell brought all of this on?
Man: Are you Mr. Jake Starr?
Jake Starr: I am...
The man pulls another order from his inside suit pocket, and hands it to Jake.
Man: As of this moment you are not to have any contact or be within 1000 feet of Holly Hill Hospital for the duration of this 72 hour hold, as you are believed to be causing long-term psychological harm to Thören.
Jake Starr: What in the FUCK are you talking about?
Jake reads over the paperwork, as the man simply stares at Jake, and the "orderlies" grab Thören to take him away. Brandon quickly jumps in front of them, to cut them off, which Jake sees out of the corner of his eye.
Jake Starr: Brandon, no... Let them go...
Brandon Evans: Really?
Jake Starr: Unfortunately, yes... We don't have the law on our side for this one...
Jake then turns and looks at Thören as he's being taken out of the room.
Jake Starr: ... Don't worry, we'll get this figure out...
Thören Holt: You better... And you BETTER let me know who's responsible...
Jake Starr: We will... This will get resolved...
As Thören hears those last words from Jake, the "orderlies" take him out of the room, and toward the exit. The man who served the two writs blocks the exit so Jake and Brandon cannot intercept them, until he knows they care at a safe distance. Once he knows they're clear, he simply turns and exits, shutting the door behind him. Brandon looks over at Jake concerned, and while Jake is still staring at the closed door, Jake's mind immediately goes to someone who is behind it, or has information about it.
Jake Starr: ... Brandon... Call Ron, now!
Brandon quickly reaches into his pocket to call Jake's father-in-law. Jake's eyes simply burn a hole through the door, and his blood begins to boil regarding what just happened, and what ramifications it could have long term. Deep down, he believes he knows who is responsible, but isn't going to make the mistake of jumping to any unnecessary conclusions.
The next 72 hours for Jake will be tough. His mind will be focused solely on his nephew, and what these doctors may be trying to get out of him, or are even looking for. Aside from the fact Thören is family, Jake feels that one of his "brothers" within the Social Misfits is being held against his will, and knows he needs to figure out what needs to be done to fix it. He worries that something could happen to make Thören believe that Jake is responsible for some mental damage, or worse, Thören could be made to believe Jake is his enemy. If the latter happens, there could be another splintering of the family. He's hoping that doesn't happen.
Jake Starr: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome... Welcome to a dawning of another new era in Supreme Championship Wrestling, and it's one that is humbly brought to you by none other than me, Jake Starr.
A sound clip of roaring applause is played.
... No... No please... Hold your applause... I know it's exciting!
For a while now, probably over a year but my ability to be an SCW Encyclopedia about anything but "All Things Jake Starr" isn't as good as some people, we have all be subjected to the inane ramblings and diatribes of Silas Mason. During that time, he has told us all how wonderful he is, how great his managing skills are, and how he would be the guy who brought the dawning of a new age is SCW. He told us all how he would be the man who lead whoever his fresh face of the day was to the promised land of SCW World Championship gold. Each one of those times, and each one of those bodies always came up short because he is simply a walking failure, who talks louder than most. He promised a lot, and delivered nothing, and the last time I stepped into an SCW ring for action, I did what I promised I would do...
I SHUT HIS ASS UP!
The world saw that cage, and KNEW the inevitable would come to fruition, and everyone, including me, knew he would try his luck at having his little goons come and rescue him. Sure, they got to me. Sure, they helped him have a semblance of success inside the ring with me, but then he showed his true colors. For all the talking... For all of the boasting... For all of the yammering about how AMAZING he was... He simply told the referee to call of the match because he conceded. Yes folks... Silas Mason QUIT the match because he knew there was no escaping with his livelihood, if he didn't. Once that happened, the referee was going to be merciful to the asshat, and let him out of the cage, free and clear. He would have walked away, and seen it as a victory for himself.
Jake smirks.
Did anyone HONESTLY believe that I would allow that bullshit to happen?
Did ANYONE actually think that I would let Silas leave under his own recognizance?!
If anyone was that stupid, then they were in for a surprise of epic proportions because adrenaline kicked in once I saw his ass trying to walk out of that cage. It really didn't sink in that I had won, nor did I really care if it did. He was still walking. He was still smirking. He was still being the snarky asshole that he had always been, and FOR FUCK'S SAKE I was NOT about to let that be how the night ended. So I got him, and I brought him back into the Lion's Den, and this time, I wasn't going to be nice about it. There was NO MERCY for the torment he had put me through, Shaun Cruze through, Chris Cannon through, and Kelcey Wallace through. There was NO MERCY for the fact he tried to take Rise to Greatness away from me. There was NO MERCY for the fact that he tried to take Thören out, all because he hoped it would get into my head. So with blow after blow after blow... It was punishing and clobbering time.
As I beat him down, I felt an energy coming that had been dormant for a long time. I felt the fans RISE UP... I felt the upheaval of the REVOLUTION beginning to ignite again... I felt my fellow Social Misfits were BACK! When I looked down from the top of that cage, and I heard the fans roaring, it was a rush. It was the energy and the emotion I had been lacking for a long time. It was that desire to shock the world, and at that moment, I realized there was only one thing left to put the coup de grace in Silas Mason, and it was to fly like a motherfucker, and come crashing down on his lifeless body. Standing over him, with Thören next to me, and the crowd emotionally charged, SINGING THE MESSAGE of our revolution, I realized that the time was now, for me to step back into the role which I feel I abandoned for so long.
It was those fans...
It was those MISFITS...
They were the ones who stepped up to the plate and REMINDED me of what it was I stood for, and more importantly, WHO I ONCE WAS! For years, I have always talked about what I had done, and they were just empty words. The passion inside me wasn't there to support everything I was preaching. I had relegated myself to being a shell of who I once was, and who I knew I could be, and in that very moment, with my fellow Misfits there, reminding me what it was we stood for and rallied against all of those years, everything changed for me. Everything became clear and everything began to take shape. In that moment, I saw that my destiny is, and WILL ONCE AGAIN BE a day in the limelight, and a day where I can safely say that I am the World Champion of Supreme Championship Wrestling!
That's right kids... Jake Starr is clamoring for gold again, and you can start your redundant talking points about that being all I do. I figure it's what you all are best at, so feel free, you uncreative douchebags, GO FOR IT. The fact of the matter is, I haven't felt like in this some time. I haven't felt energized enough to make those claims, and you know what, it's caused me to always feel lost. I had realized that I had begun to slip on the totem pole of contenders, and honestly, there wasn't a shitload that I felt I could do about remedying it. I had become accepting of that fact, that I was simply someone else on the roster, and not one of the elite, and I think that was my problem. I think I had ACCEPTED the fact that I just wasn't good enough anymore because that is what I had always heard...
"Oh Syren is better..."
"Oh Kelcey is better..."
"Oh Shaun is better..."
These were all the things I was hearing day after fucking day. I wasn't getting any fucking reprieve from it. It was incessant, and it was to the point where I think I just started to believe it, just like the crowd did. I think MY MISFITS began to feel as if they were simply being cast aside, like I was, all because people were telling them they weren't good enough anymore. We all began to feel that sense of failure because we weren't where we should be anymore. But thanks to Silas Mason... Thanks to his antics... Thanks to his running of the mouth... Thanks to him REMINDING me once again what I have always stood for... I truly believe that I can once again hang with the top guys. I don't care if people like me saying it, and I don't care if they believe me, it means jack SHIT to me. This is my career, this is my life, this is what I truly fucking believe. I'm not going to sit around and wait on it, either. I've watched Cruze, Kelcey, and Reagan getting shot after shot between them, and I think it's time I got in line with them. Hell... If you look at the list of contenders, right now, guess who is the only one to have actually taken the title from Syren... ME! Besides... Why shouldn't it be me? Reagan has had multiple opportunities, Shaun has had multiple opportunities, Kelcey has had her shots, too! I don't see why I can't have a shot somewhere in that mix.
But let's be real here... SCW doesn't just gift out things. Shit, half the time it doesn't even look like they give things where they're due, they just stagnate around people that are "safe bets," or at least that's how I've always seen it. So why don't I go out there, and make a statement? Why don't I go out there, and open the eyes of the masses? Why don't I go out there and make people wonder where this Jake Starr has been for the longest time because THIS Jake Starr... This guy... The guy who looked down at a lifeless Silas Mason felt it. I felt that drive that I haven't felt in some time. I felt my body come off of "autopilot" and "cruise control." So why don't I go out there and make people notice me? Why don't I just do thing my way, and MAKE those dumbasses in the front offices give me what I want?
Jake smirks again.
Oh trust me... That's what I plan on doing!
You see, in order to stop my doubters, and convince many of the dummies in the front office that it's MY FUCKING TURN AGAIN, I have to start doing things that surprise people. I have to make sure that whatever I do inside that ring makes people turn their head and say, "Alright, Jake just made another statement." I mean, let's face it... Bringing Silas Mason to his knees and making him inevitably beg for mercy is fine and all, and he's another "virus" that I have ridded SCW of, but I didn't get many World Title offers off of that match. So I have to step up my game. I have to do something drastic.
Breakdown will be the day I take drastic measures!
In my entire SCW career, I have done a lot of things. I've won a lot of championships. I have beaten a lot of people. But one thing that I have NEVER been able to do is go out on national television and beaten David Helms. It's something that, honestly, I have thought that I could do each time I have walked into that ring with him, and each time I have come out empty handed. He's owned me. He's defeated me every time. He's proven that he has me figured out. But we are walking into another SCW event opposing one another, and here I stand stating that things will be different.
How could it be?
Why would this moment not be a replay of the previous ones?
The answer is simple... I don't know! See, the one time that I thought I was a shoe-in to win, was when he turned on me, to join Infamous. When he did that to me and my family, I was livid, and I was out there feeling that the raw fucking emotion that I was feeling would drive me through him. It didn't. I lost again. He got the last laugh. It was a moment that made me realize that maybe, just maybe, I can't beat him. Maybe he is just that guy who, when we face, he's the better man? I just don't know. This time around, I don't have that raw emotion. I don't have this massive amount of anger driving me to want to decapitate him. See, before Rise to Greatness, he and I buried the hatchet. We spoke, we discussed everything that went down, and we have both moved on. So the idea that I could still utilize that rage against him is completely gone because what happened with that incident is over and done with.
So how will I change my game?
How will I be able to solve that puzzle?
Like I said... I don't know...
The truth is, when I heard we would be facing off, I realized that this was my chance. Like I said, I want my opportunity to vie for the SCW World Title again. I want to be in that picture, but also like I said, to get there, I have to do something crazy. Since I have never beaten David, that would be something to hang my hat on. That would be something I could take to the powers that be and say, "Look what I did, assholes!" And David knows me well enough to know that if I want a sniff of the World Championship, I tend to push myself even harder. That's why I think this time could be different. My focus is set. My Misfits have risen from the ashes, like a Phoenix. David, I don't think he's focused. I don't think his mind is anywhere close to being in the right spot. I mean, think about it... Ole Silas is starting to try and pull his strings, and tell him what to do, and I know David well enough to know it's not something he's approving of. You can see it in his eyes. You can see it in his actions.
Face it... David Helms isn't David Helms right now...
That very fact is something that tells me that I could legitimately have a chance to rewrite history this time around. The fact that David is having to walk out there and know that there are chances for Silas to do something to try and throw things off can't be good for him, mentally. It wouldn't be good for me, that's for damn sure. So I have to use that. I have to hope to exploit that. I have to use whatever advantages I can, in order to make things different this time around, and I will do it. I will find something I can exploit, and I will see how well it works for me.
Jake clears his throat, and looks deeper into the camera lens.
David... This is the first time we've tangled since we spoke at Rise to Greatness... And I'm glad that this match happened after we got to talk. We aired our grievances, and we moved on. We can go into Breakdown, and do what we've done in the bulk of the matches we've had, and handle our business like professionals, and let the better man win. The differences will lie with the fact that I know your head won't be in the game, and the fact that I am feeling the energy I haven't felt in a long time. I'm feeling the emotion I haven't felt in a long time. You have faced me when I've had that energy, and you've beaten me, but this time, I am going to do everything in my power to change it. I am going to do whatever it takes to win because it just feels like "the time" for me to do so.
I don't know what it is you have going on with Silas, and quite frankly I don't care... It's not my business... But just know that if you decide to follow his lead, you'll end up a failing at whatever you want to achieve. That's who he is, and that's what he stands for. But who knows... Maybe he'll stay away, and take the BEATING I inflicted on him as a signal that he isn't welcome. Whatever the case is, understand I'm not looking at you as "one of his people." You're David Helms. You're still a "brother." I have a great deal of respect for you, but when it comes to this match, I'm going out there with a plan. I want this win. I don't know what it's going to take to get it, but I want it. I want this monkey off of my back, and I want this chance to get my name back in the World Title hunt... I've been out of it for too long. I had to win a tournament to even get my name included because otherwise I was LONG OUT of it.
I'm coming to win...
I'm coming to stun the world...
I'm coming to beat you, man...
