As the world tuned into the most recent SCW pay-per view, Apocalypse, there was one noticeable omission to the card. For the first time since 2011, Jake Starr's name was not on the list of active participants on the event. It was something that many wondered about, and the curiosity arose, wondering if it was a sign of Jake Starr's decline in status in the organization. It was a situation that even Jake had remained relatively silent on, yet made it clear on the Breakdown preceding Apocalypse that he would still be a force to be reckoned with.
And he made good on that promise.
When the world thought that Jake Starr may be completely absent from the event, he came through the crowd, and made his presence felt with gusto. He didn't come alone, either. He was joined by his "right hand woman," Chairee, to bring pain and frustration to the lives of Silas Mason's gaggle of clients, and he came within just inches of taking the head off of Silas Mason himself. It was a moment where Jake showed the world that while he may be held off of the main card, he can still make an insane impact on the event itself. It was a moment that Jake felt really defined his message. He wanted the world to realize that he was a desperate man, willing to take desperate measures, to ensure that he isn't forgotten and cast aside in the long term plans for SCW.
After the event, much like every SCW staple he attends, after finishing up, Jake packed his stuff, and headed back for the hotel. As he and Brandon arrive, they quickly see that inside the lobby, there is a crowd of fans mulling about, trying to get some autographs and photos with their favorite SCW superstars. Seeing this commotion inside forces Jake to look over at Brandon, and alter their normal game plan.
Jake Starr: I'll head inside, so we can get the PR stuff taken care of, if you'll park the car...
Brandon Evans: Works for me...
Jake gets out from the passenger side, and grabs some of his notable belongings, that may be "added bonuses" for the fans. Some of the fans see him exiting the vehicle, and quickly try to jockey for position. Jake takes a deep breath, and walks in. Before he can even say a word, he is immediately mobbed by fans clamoring for autographs and pictures with the former World Champion. Since Jake comes from the "old school" world of professional wrestling, he was taught that whether he liked the fans or not, he needed to appreciate those who made his paychecks possible. With that mentality, he always tries to be willing to sign autographs, and take photos with the fans.
One of the fans sees that Jake is carrying his "good friend," Chairee with him, and asks for Jake to hold it up in some of his poses. He then is approached by some of the teenage fans, who want Jake to act like he's hitting them with said "sidekick," while their friends take pictures as well. It's a request Jake hadn't heard before, and he chuckles. He knows the hotel is riddled with cameras, so he doesn't mind taking the picture, knowing the cameras would easily be able to show he never really hit any of the fans.
After making it through the slew of fans, Jake is finally able to begin making his way toward the elevator. As he passes the front desk of the hotel, one of the clerks looks up and sees Jake. He is quick to call out to the Social Misfit, and catch his attention.
Front Desk Clerk: Excuse me, Mister Starr?
Jake stops in his tracks, and turns toward the man.
Jake Starr: Yeah?
Front Desk Clerk: Oh man... I'm a big fan!
Jake smirks.
Jake Starr: Thanks, man...
Jake turns to walk away again, but is called out to again.
Front Desk Clerk: ... Oh, Jake!
Jake freezes again, and turns back to look in the man's direction.
Front Desk Clerk: ... I meant to tell you that I gave your buddy a key, since he forgot the one he got earlier.
Jake cocks an eyebrow.
Jake Starr: My buddy?
Front Desk Clerk: Yeah... He told me he was your travel buddy, and since I read all of the "insider" sites, I knew you always traveled with one...
Jake Starr: Wow... You sure know a lot about me...
The man grins, not recognizing the slight sarcasm in Jake's voice. At the same time, from behind Jake, Brandon appears with the rest of their stuff. Jake looks back at Brandon, then over at the front desk worker.
Jake Starr: Was this the "friend?"
The counter worker squints, and tilts his head to the side, before shaking his head.
Front Desk Clerk: Nah... Who is he?
The lack of recognition of Brandon makes Jake laugh.
Jake Starr: Ha ha... Thank you for saying that...
Brandon throws his hands out to the side, and sighs.
Brandon Evans: C'mon... Really?
The man just shrugs.
Front Desk Clerk: Sorry... I just don't recognize you.
Jake laughs some more, as Brandon's blood begins to boil.
Brandon Evans: Dude... I'm Brandon FUCKING Evans... I'm Kold FUCKING Killa... I'm one of the FOUNDERS of the Social Misfits... I'm Jake's best friend... I'm...
As Brandon goes to reply, Jake interrupts him.
Jake Starr: ... You know on those dirtsheets, where it says I travel with one of my buddies, this is the buddy...
The man's eyes immediately widen, realizing that wasn't the man he gave a key to. As that happens, Brandon realizes there is something going on that he apparently missed.
Brandon Evans: Umm... What's all this about?
Jake points up, as if pointing to their hotel room.
Jake Starr: We have company...
Brandon's demeanor goes from annoyed to concerned, and Jake looks back at the man, trying to find out who is waiting for them.
Jake Starr: ... What did this guy look like?
The man has become nervous, and his speech conveys it.
Front Desk Clerk: He... He had spiked hair... A goatee... He was tanned... He was also wearing sunglasses, and said it was because the light was giving him headaches...
Jake nods.
Jake Starr: Ah!
Jake then looks back over at Brandon.
Jake Starr: ... I'll head up by myself.
Brandon Evans: The hell you are! We don't know who is really up there!
Jake Starr: C'mon man, shut up... We both know who it is, and we both know there is no need to worry.
Brandon Evans: Yeah, well we could be wrong.
Jake rolls his eyes.
Jake Starr: ... Yes, and it could really be Publisher's Clearing House here to give me my one-hundred million dollars...
Brandon just stares at Jake.
Jake Starr: ... Listen... You can stay right here, or you can go over to that horde of fans and try and convince them that he's someone they actually want a picture with, who isn't making the rounds on the convention circuit.
Brandon just stares back at Jake, with an annoyed look in his eye, while Jake chuckles. After enjoying the burn of his best friend, Jake turns back to the front desk worker.
Jake Starr: ... Thanks for the forewarning...
The worker, still nervous, responds.
Front Desk Clerk: I'm... I'm sorry for the mistake...
Jake Starr: I know... Just let it be a lesson to not always believe you know everything, by just reading the dirtsheets. This time, it's not going to cause any problems because I know who is up there, but next time, be a little more careful.
Front Desk Clerk: Y-yes sir... I really am sorry, sir...
Jake nods, and makes a b-line for the elevators. As he ascends, he sighs, wondering why the whole situation of secrecy and pretending to be others is still playing out. Once he reaches his floor, he quickly steps out and heads for his room. As he puts his key in, and opens the door, he walks in to see all of the lights off, and the room is pitch black. Before flipping the switch he calls out to the other occupant.
Jake Starr: Is it really necessary that we always meet like this?
Jake then flips the light switch to the room, and sees his nephew Thoren, sitting in the chair on the other side of the room. Thoren's response is sarcastic and dry, toward his uncle.
Thoren Holt: ... Well if you ask me, it's how we seem to communicate best. The lack of planning on both sides seems to be the best idea we have.
Jake smirks.
Jake Starr: Yeah... I would say we seemingly are able to play the honesty card a little better if one of us doesn't have the opportunity to think things out...
Jake leans over onto the wall of the room.
Jake Starr: ... So what's up, man?
Thoren Holt: Honestly?
Jake Starr: Yeah...
Thoren Holt: I'm tired of living in the shadows...
Jake smirks.
Jake Starr: ... And this whole meeting in the dark is supposed to convince me of that?
Thoren smirks, too, then stands up.
Thoren Holt: I am serious, though... I'm seriously sick and tired of living in the background, and I'm ready to step out and do some things myself. I saw you take my advice and go out there, and beat the shit out of people. Seeing it gave me an itch that I need to scratch. Seeing you teeing off on those assholes is something I want to feel too! In a nutshell... I want to join this fight! I want to get even.
Jake shakes his head.
Jake Starr: No... You're not ready...
Thoren fires back with a fire and passion in his voice.
Thoren Holt: Jake, I've been in far bigger fights than this!
Jake Starr: I'm not talking about whether or not you could handle the fight, or not, I'm talking about your health. The guy downstairs told me about the light still giving you headaches, so you don't need to try to be involved with this until you're actually better...
Thoren Holt: I'm to the point where I could give a shit! I can wear sunglasses and beat the shit out of people. You went out there, and you inspired me to want to FINALLY get even. Those douchebags put me in the fucking hospital, and I'm sick of them getting ANY kind of laugh at my expense...
Jake Starr: No...
Thoren pulls his sunglasses off, to look Jake in the eye.
Thoren Holt: Dude... I have had to sit back and watch Silas's World get their way with EVERY FUCKING THING IMAGINABLE! I have seen them get pushed time after time, all because every time I turn around, they add another member out of thin fucking air. They're like SCW's version of the nWo, which ultimately will make them irrelevant. But right now, they're the ones who are getting to walk around with their noses in the air, and getting to run roughshod over anyone and anything. But when you started stalking them, and ruining their lives, it ignited that same fire I called you out on, inside me. I desperately want to see them crumble, man. I want to see their entire structure DIE right in front of their eyes. I don't just want to beat them up, and leave bruises, I want to fucking HURT THEM like they hurt me. I am ALL about revenge, man... I am about getting even... I don't want to go out there, play fair, play nice, be friendly, or even make this a career, right now. I want to embarrass those fuckers, like they DESERVE to be...
Jake Starr: I promise you, bro... Your time will come.
Thoren Holt: When? Seriously, when? I have been waiting for months, now. Every time I say I want in on this war, I get told to wait. I want to fuck these people over, and I'm SICK of waiting around like a fucking invalid. These guys embarrassed me, Jake, and it's time I return the favor!
Jake smiles.
Jake Starr: Like I said, man, that time will come. I like seeing this desire from you, though. You'll definitely need that fire...
Thoren Holt: Man... I don't even want the guys who beat me down as much as I want Silas. Those puppets are just that, fucking PUPPETS. I want Silas. I want the "big boss man," of the bunch. I don't need to be healthy for that.
Jake Starr: Yeah... True... But like all mythical battles, before you get to the boss, you have to get through the underlings. In the end, you'll have your moment to cut the head off of the hydra, himself, but before that, I'm clearing your path. I am going to go out there, and do what needs to be done first. You just need to be patient...
Thoren Holt: I have been patient... And I'm just going to be blunt, here... Whether you like it or not, I'm going to be at every event going forward, and I'm going to be doing whatever it takes to get back at them for what they did to me.
Jake Starr: If you would just wait...
Thoren cuts Jake off.
Thoren Holt: Jake, I have waited. They put me in a position where I had my family looking at me like I was incapable of doing anything for myself, anymore. It's time I did something about it. It's time I showed my family their little assumption about me is wrong. I want to show EVERYONE that Silas Mason made a fucking mistake by using me as an example... And I'm willing to do that with or without you. I just wanted to be straightforward with you, and be honest...
Jake sighs.
Jake Starr: Well... If I don't have a choice, then I suppose it's time we get down to business, eh?
Thoren smirks.
Thoren Holt: Yes... It is...
As Thoren realizes Jake has basically agreed to allow him to finally "join the battle," there is a sense of relief that he doesn't need to try and fight Jake to buy into his desires. He also feels that maybe the true war can begin. Jake on the other hand feels that this could be a very dangerous path for him to travel. Knowing Thoren is, deep down, a reckless human being, Jake doesn't know how his plan of continuing to stalk his prey would work. Nevertheless, he understands that if he allowed Thoren to go at it alone, he's ultimately be dragged from the shadows, and his own plans would be compromised.
Jake Starr: Over the course of my SCW career, I have faced a lot of adversity. Time after time, I have been the target of some group trying to establish themselves as the premier group in the industry. Time after time, I am the one who gets to sit back and be the foil for their attacks, and their attempt to justify their existence in this organization. It has become one of the norms of my residency in Supreme Championship Wrestling. It has become something I have become accustomed to.
It all started with Mr. D, and his brood known as the Infection. He and I didn't see eye to eye, and he decided that it would be my punishment because of the fact I defied his word, that his group would repeatedly attack me and take me down. Christian Savior and Stacy Kissinger, both, made it a regular routine to come at me, and try to take me out. Each time they came at me, I was ready, and I handled them with EASE.
After the Infection came Infamous... A group lead by, now, World Champion, Syren. Syren's group began to grow and grow, minute after minute, and she would send out her hired guns to attack me at any moment she could. Whether it was Christy Matthews, Ravyn Taylor, Lucas Knight, or hell, even Tommy Valentine or David Helms, I was public enemy NUMBER FUCKING ONE for Infamous, just like I was with the Infection. I was the guy ALWAYS battling the numbers game, each time Supreme Championship Wrestling was on TV. Unlike with the Infection, though, the battles were fiercer, and on several occasions, I ended up on the losing end of that battle.
Even though with one group I reigned supreme, and with another it was a much different story, they share one MAJORLY COMMON bond between the two... NEITHER MEAN ANYTHING ANYMORE!
See... With the Infection, Mr. D's goal was to go out there, and wear me down, and take me out. He wanted to be sure that since Jake Starr defied his word, he would be removed from the organization. Now... Today... The Infection doesn't fucking exist anymore. They disbanded. They moved on. They realized that their grandiose mission of destroying Jake Starr fell short, and they parted ways just like the Red Sea. Infamous, where are they now? Hell, WHO are they now? Are they even around anymore? They became IRRELEVANT, once I moved on from them. Syren had to go out on her own, and do things by herself in order to get anyone to even give her a second look. She didn't have her patsies to do her bidding for her, any longer. But the fact is, when Jake Starr moved on from Infamous, they slowly whittled away out of existence. I kept them afloat, and once I was done with them, POOF, no longer relevant.
Jake smirks.
Do you notice a pattern, here?
Do you get what I'm putting down?
Are you hearing what I am saying?
Silas Mason is a guy who thinks he can buck the trend. He thinks he can go out there, and he can add members left and right, and ultimately be the guy who proves to create this great stable people talk about for years to come. But that was the same thing with the Infection, and Infamous. Both thought they could be that quintessential staple in the minds of the masses, where people always refer back to them, and talk about their greatness, but instead, they are referenced in the context of, "Oh yeah, I forgot about them!" Silas Mason is heading down the same path, and trying to use me for the same reasons that the aforementioned groups did as well. The sad thing is, they don't see the writing on the wall, and they don't see the reality of what lies in front of them. They don't see that using me only leads to their demise, and trying to make an example of someone like me is just a recipe for failure.
I will also say this... If they think they can learn from the mistakes of the previous two, they need to realize things are a little bit different this time around!
See, with Infamous and the Infection, the story was the same. They attacked me, I fought back, good reigned over evil, ta-da, end of story. It was the fairy tale you read your children before bed. This time around, Silas Mason tried to implement that screenplay all over again, but quite frankly, I'm tired of it. I'm tired of being on the defensive, and always looking over my shoulder. It was what lead me to officially declare my dealings with Infamous OVER, because I was SO INCREDIBLY BORED with their constant rehashing of the same routine time after time. This time, when I saw the writing on the wall, I decided to make this more enjoyable for myself. I decided to do the ole switcheroo on them, and flip the fucking script!
That's why, instead of being the hunted... JAKE STARR IS THE FUCKING HUNTER!
I'm sick of being the guy who always is worried about what lurks behind the next corner. I'm tired of being the guy who always has to rise up from a beat down. I'm tired of being the stereotypical good guy in a war of good and evil. I made a conscious decision that, if they wanted a war, I wasn't going to be the guy who stood back and waited any longer. I've dealt with that punishment, and I've felt that pain, and I'M FUCKING SICK OF IT! It is time they realize that, while they are breeding new members left and right, and trying to smother the roster, ONE FUCKING MAN CAN BEAT THEM! More importantly, I want them to realize that no matter how long this drags out, no matter who wins more fights, in the end, I WILL STILL BE HERE, LONG AFTER THEY'RE GONE. They will be a FOOTNOTE on the history of Supreme Championship Wrestling, while Jake Starr is still the main character in the story. No matter how many people they bring in, produce out of thin fucking air, or recruit, they will not last like I do.
I don't die...
I don't give up...
I don't give in...
I don't care what happens, they will not outlast me, and in the end, they will be the ones who are embarrassed time and time again, by one man, and his fucking chair...
Jake cracks his neck to the left side, letting off an audible pop.
... And I'm so fucking talented I can manage all of that bullshit, while dealing with a completely secondary piece of bullshit as well. This piece of bullshit, literally smells like bullshit. He is a man whom I've tangled with on a couple of occasions, and the one time we actually settled our differences one on one, yes, he won. He's a man who I truly haven't gotten to "repay" properly, for taking the United States Championship from around my waist, but thankfully, that period of time will soon come to an end...
Yes folks...
You guessed it...
The man in assless chaps, a Zorro mask, and stick-horse will soon be standing across from me inside the ring, once again. And this time, I can promise you, the outcome will be FAR FUCKING DIFFERENT than anything that has happened in recent memory, between him and me.
Merrick Wiseman is coming off of a performance at Apocalypse that can only be described as, well, "Meh!" I mean, when you hype up a prison yard match, you need to realize what that means. It means you need to go out there and be GANGSTA on people. And if you're not going to thug it up a bit, you need to realize that your other option is to be your opponent's BITCH! Unfortunately Merrick didn't do anything but hide a key, and outsmart three guys who haven't been relevant in SCW since I have come along. I could outsmart guys who were rusty without thinking, and if Merrick thinks that's something to pride himself about, he's still as big of an idiot as he's always been.
Anyway...
Merrick and I have a history, and it's been one where he's done his share of stale mudslinging. His inability to be original is something that doesn't surprise me, nor does it annoy me. He tries to sound tough, while also sounding like he's this bastion of justice, and everyone sees right through the bullshit. I know I do. So I encourage everyone to truly listen to him when he comes to cut his inevitable promo, and compare it to every other promo he's cut about me. I can guarantee you his originality will be somewhere between slim and none, and he'll try and make some dated reference which leads people to wonder who really is hiding beneath that terrible disguise. Sometimes I wonder, but I honestly have "ZERO" clue...
But I digress...
At Breakdown, I walk in after a moment that I have never had in SCW. With the exception of the time I was on the shelf, , thanks to Winchester and Kissinger, and the time Mr. D barred me from being in the Taking Hold of the Flame battle royal, I had NEVER missed a pay-per view in my SCW career. Apocalypse is the first one that I missed where I could have, and WANTED to compete. But the brass had nothing for me. It makes me believe they're trying to put me out to pasture, or they don't think I can "hang" with the big boys anymore. So coming into this Breakdown, I realize I have a LOT to prove, and a LOT riding on a match with someone who is about as mediocre as they come. It's something I have to go out and perform to my BEST on, whether Merrick brings it out of me or not. I can't sit back, and I can't simply expect to coast through beating him...
Jake steps toward the camera.
... And I WILL beat him...
Jake steps back to his original position.
I have to assume that he's the caliber of the World Champion, and I have to dominate. I have to embarrass him without ANY MERCY. He's going to come in all gung-ho, trying to go for the whole truth, justice, and the American way mumbo jumbo we tirelessly hear from him, but quite frankly I don't care. I don't care what he brings in, says, or does. He's going to get beaten up. This isn't about right and wrong anymore. This isn't about me proving that I'm good, bad, or indifferent. This isn't what we've sparred about in the past. This is about Jake Starr proving he is still relevant. I'm NOT going to be the next Greg Cherry or Jason Zero... I am not going to be that guy who thinks he's more than he is BECAUSE I'M NOT! I am capable of doing things far greater than Merrick will EVER achieve, and it's time I prove that.
He was lucky ONCE.
He was fortunate ONCE.
He beat me ONCE!
That ONE FUCKING TIME is something he hangs his little Howdy Doody hat on every fucking chance he gets because he realizes it is ALL HE HAS. He couldn't be Ravyn Taylor, after trying to prove he was worthy of the United States Championship. He has fallen into a world where people forget he fucking exists, and THAT IS WHERE HE BELONGS! I am tired of guys like him getting billed over me because we all fucking know who the talented one of that pairing truly is. I am going out on Breakdown to prove where he belongs, and to show the world that if the suits want to start relegating me to the dregs of the card, their "top billed talents" will soon all pay the price for it. I'm going out there to lay waste to EVERYONE in my path, and send EVERYONE who crosses me to their career graves.
If SCW wants to hold me off of pay-per view cards, they'll see what kind of emotions it brings out of me. If they want to DISRESPECT me like that, I will DISRESPECT EVERYONE ELSE in return. It'll begin at Breakdown. It'll end WHEN I FUCKING SAY. Because let's face it... I've told everyone once, and I've told everyone a thousand times...
THIS IS MY FUCKING HOUSE!!!!
