The conclusion of Breakdown gave the world ample reason to care about Under Attack. If they weren't interested enough before, now, after seeing Brandon Evans with a noose around his neck, and apparently having been the victim of some kind of lynch mob, definitely has everyone curious as to what is going on, and why that went down. If that wasn't enough, if the vicious assault on former SCW wrestler, Brandon Evans, wasn't enough to make people wonder, the subsequent ambush of Jake Starr would be the crowning glory. Nobody quite knows the reasoning behind the Coalition's desire to bring Jake and Brandon into their battles with Harmony Fisher, Ashley Issacs, and Chris Cannon.
But the reality is, it is happening.
After the assaults on both men, emergency medical personnel quickly rushed to their respective aides. Both men sustained quite a beating, but Brandon was far worse off than Jake. Having not been in any physical altercations like that in some time had caused his body to decondition itself to taking so much pain, and on top of it all, the beaten was so violent that doctors were forced to put Brandon into a temporary, medically-induced, coma, to let some of his wounds heal with the body in a state of stasis. It was a decision rendered early on, due to the severity of the beating he endured. Jake, on the other hand, was only diagnosed with bumps, bruises, and a possible concussion. And he was lucky. Having not known that the ambush was on the horizon, the possibility of a much more grave injury was highly possible.
After being transported to the hospital, the Intensive Care Unit felt it best to keep both in the same room together. They know Jake would, most likely, become lucid first, and immediately wonder what had happened. They felt it best that he be right there to support his friend, rather than fight to be near him once he awoke. They also knew that, should Jake and Brandon be separated, with their ability to cause a bit of distractions to avoid being helped, there was a high likelihood that somehow, at least one of them would try to escape. Having them together gives the staff a much easier chance to monitor the two of them at the same time.
Just hours removed from the event, doctors have begun routine checks of both men's vital signs. Both men have remained unconscious, and thankfully Brandon's vitals have slowly begun to seem more and more stable. As time continues to pass, Jake has periods of pseudo-consciousness, and seems to at least have a vague clue of his surroundings, but doesn't bother trying to cipher why he is there.
As doctors continues to monitor the pair, there is a bit of a commotion out in the entrance to the emergency room...
Woman's Voice: Where is he?! Where's my husband?!
Man's Voice: We will find him, don't worry...
Woman's Voice: He has to be here somewhere!
Man's Voice: Relax!
The commotion is Roeper Hart and Shawn Wright having flown in from Iowa, down to Louisiana to check on Jake and Brandon. They were watching Breakdown, when the assault happened. Neither were able to reach Jake or Brandon by phone or text, and knew that this beating wasn't normal like some of the assaults Jake has endured.
Roeper's inquiry is met with confusion by the receptionist, as she does not know who these two are. Roeper realizes that the lady doesn't recognize her, and she immediately pulls out ID and verification of who she is. The receptionist immediately verifies heir identities, and the two are immediately shown the way to the ICU. They quickly make a b-line in the direction they are pointed. As the reach the ICU unit, Shawn and Roeper are quickly directed to Brandon and Jake's room.
As they walk in they both see Jake and Brandon lying in bed unconscious. Both men look visibly rough. It's enough of a shock to illicit reactions out of both Shawn and Roeper.
Roeper Hart: Oh my God...
Shawn Wright: Man... Damn...
The two look on as Jake looks battered and bruised, with oxygen being fed into his nose. They see Brandon hooked to numerous monitors, and being fed medications and sedatives through an IV, while all of his bodily functions are being actively monitored moment by moment.
After their exclamations, Jake realizes someone else is in the room with him, and can tell it's not a doctor or nurse. He slowly begins to open his eyes, and can make out that it is his wife and friend standing there. Roeper sees him begin to awaken, and rushes to his side. Shawn, realizing that the husband and wife tandem need a "moment," simply stands back.
Roeper Hart: Oh my God, baby... Are you OK? How are you feeling? I can't believe that happened to you!
Jake struggles and grimaces as he replies.
Jake Starr: Ugh... Yeah... I'm fine...
After Roeper and Jake have a brief moment, Shawn steps forward as well. He puts his hand on Jake's bed before speaking.
Shawn Wright: Hey man, how are you feeling?
Jake winces again.
Jake Starr: Oh... You know... Just fucking dreamy...
Jake is oblivious to the fact that Brandon is in the bed next to him, and doesn't even look. He, instead, takes the opportunity to try and figure out what landed him in the hospital.
Jake Starr: ... So what happened?
Shawn Wright: You don't remember?
Although injured, Jake's sarcasm is still mighty healthy.
Jake Starr: I just think it makes a lovely bed-side story... No... I don't remember...
Shawn Wright: You got ambushed when you left Breakdown to go try and help out Brandon...
Jake's inquisitive voice is breathy, and quiet.
Jake Starr: Brandon? What happened to him?
Shawn looks up, over at Brandon's bed, which makes Jake strain to look to his right. He sees Brandon in the bed next to him, and receives a surge of adrenaline. His emotions turn from a quizzical mentality to an enraged flood of fury. He immediately tries to get up, and get to his friend's side, and the pain forces him to stop, and fall back into his bed. At the same time Shawn reaches out to restrain Jake as well.
Shawn Wright: Jake... No... Stay put... Brandon is being cared for by the best out there...
Jake's anger continues to boil.
Jake Starr: Whoever did this shit is going to pay! I swear to God they will all suffer because of this!
Shawn Wright: Jake, you really need to relax, man. This reckless behavior and reckless mentality is what has you both in the hospital. The fact that you didn't realize that waging war on the entire fucking wrestling world would result in this, is sad, man. You should have known that EVERYONE out there was going to be gunning for the two of you. I'm serious man, you...
Shawn goes to continue chastising Jake, but is interrupted by another person darting into the room. All three of those conscious in the room turn to see Harmony Fisher come running in. The minute she sees both Jake and Brandon laid up in hospital beds she is stricken with a surge of emotion running through her veins. The emotions force her to her knees and her face into her hands, feeling a sense of responsibility for Jake and Brandon's situation.
While this is happening, Jake is trying to figure out exactly why she is there, and finally calls out to her, hoping to get some answers.
Jake Starr: Harm?
Harmony Fisher: I'm... I'm so sorry! I am so sorry you and Brandon got brought into this. This isn't your fight.
Jake Starr: I don't know who exactly you're talking about, but the fact is, it is our fight, too, now...
Without missing a beat, Shawn chimes in.
Shawn Wright: No, Jake, it isn't... The only fight you should have on your mind, outside of healing, is worrying about the Chamber, and nothing else.
Harmony Fisher: Shawn is right... This isn't your fight. These guys are trying to get to me by going after people that I trust and that I care about...
Her sounds of concern begin to shift to sounds of anger as she begins to stand up.
Harmony Fisher: ... These guys have fucked with me to the point that I am ready to fucking explode! So trust me... You don't need to worry about this. I will NOT let this go unpunished.
Jake quickly retorts.
Jake Starr: And neither will I... I may not remember what happened, but let's just remember that Memorex is a fancy piece of technology that can tell me all I need to know. If people want to try and slow me down from destroying everything unless I get my way, then fine... I don't care...
Shawn Wright: Jake, that sounds like fucking suicide, man...
Jake's eyes dart to Shawn.
Jake Starr: Shawn, look at Brandon. Look at what these assholes did to him. He is unconscious, in a hospital, and it isn't because he did something stupid to himself. Instead, this time Brandon was treated like his life had no fucking meaning in the world...
Jake's look turns into more of a scowl.
Jake Starr: ... If they have no regard for Brandon's life and well-being, then guess what, I have that same amount of respect for them, and I will make sure they know it. That means I won't hesitate to do it to these guys too. So... With that being said, I WILL be striking back, and I WILL strike back in a manner that hits these asshole very close to him.
Harmony tries to reason with Jake, knowing that he wasn't targeted to be brought into the fight, but more so to drive home a point to her.
Harmony Fisher: Jake, I'm telling you this isn't your fight...
Jake's view shifts back over to Harmony.
Jake Starr: You're wrong, Harm... It WASN'T my fight. Now, however, it is very much my fight. This is now very fucking personal with me. People have been turning my world into a much more personal fight every time I have turned around, and honestly, I'm sick of it. So now, I am going to make it equally personal for everyone else. It is the Social Misfit way. Everyone has heartstrings, Harm, and nobody can yank at them better than me.
Roeper, having set quietly during most of this, finally tries to reason with Jake.
Roeper Hart: Jake... You don't need to deal with this... You just need...
Jake quickly stops her attempt to get through to him.
Jake Starr: Roeper, no... These plans of mine, to cause chaos will continue. The only difference now is that I can safely say I know who my first PATSY will be. Well... I will know once I see what the hell happened...
Jake looks over at Harmony once again.
Jake Starr: ... So Harmony, it's time for you to go "round up the troops." Go call the cavalry because we are ALL going into this battle together, now.
As Jake goes to try and get up again, and lead the charge against those who attacked him, he winces again, and falls back into the bed. Everyone rushes to try and keep Jake from doing too much, and not resting. Jake begins to realize that he is much more battered than he realized, and more than the adrenaline could mask. A sense of dejection and sadness comes over him, as he knows he cannot immediately go out and try to seek revenge.
This realization makes Jake understand that at Under Attack, he will know everything that happened, and be able to do whatever is necessary to get back at those who did what they did to him. He also knows that by overcoming the bumps, bruises, and possible concussion inside the Chamber, it'd be a giant "fuck you" to those who have made the attempt to "soften" him up. At the same time, he realizes that he's going into a pay-per view in a very fragile state. It's something nobody ever wants, but he is forced to endure.
How will he be able to bounce back and respond? He has to walk into a demonic structure nursing injuries, and try and outlast five other people. Will it even be possible? Will he be forced to watch someone else walk out with the Number One Contender's spot, or will be beat the odds, and take something he feels is rightfully his to begin with? In a matter of hours, now, those questions will be answered, and someone will walk out with a golden ticket to a shot at the World Championship.
Jake Starr: The clock is ticking...
Tick...
Tock...
Tick...
Tock...
The hours seem to be taking forever to pass. Each time that clock moves one second closer to Sunday seems like an eternity to me, and it's because of the fact that I YEARN for the opportunity to walk out there, hear my music blaring, gaze at those fellow followers of the Social Misfit code with their fists firmly in the air, and ultimately the smell of carnage in the air. That's what I picture in my head, when I think about Sunday. I think about everyone in the back, the suits in their overly decorated closet they're portraying as their "offices," and the collective mentality of HOPING and PRAYING that this is the moment where Jake Starr falls flat, and his hopes and dreams are shattered. It's something that has become, somewhat of a norm. Everyone wants me to falter, and everyone wants me to fail.
Trust me when I say people LOATHE that when I'm knocked down, I get back up!
I can admit that I know I brought a lot of it on myself... I mean, who really likes to see a guy dominate for so many years, and basically continue to say that he's not content with the success he's had, and wants more? Seriously... Why would ANYONE like someone whose dream it is to be considered the best ever? What person, in their right mind, would hear someone say, "I dream of being a Hall of Famer," and not feel the urge to vomit in their socks?
Jake's sarcastic inquisition leads everyone to know that the dubious answer awaits. Jake does not disappoint, and leans in toward the camera and whispers the answer.
Someone who's jealous, that's who!
Jake leans back, and begins to smirk. Hearing all of the criticism has finally lead him to the point where he wants to just let the truth be heard.
That's right... See, when SCW was growing, and slowly becoming the powerhouse that it is now, it had a Hall of Fame ceremony here and there, and it would induct a lot of guys who became those who helped grow the business. It would enshrine those who helped pave the way for guys like me, in 2009, to come in and be in such a spotlight. Nowadays, those names are fizzling out. Jason Zero isn't anywhere to be seen. Greg Cherry, while easy to spot from another planet, isn't one of those "key players," and hell, even CHBK, who was arguably one of the greatest ever, isn't worth SHIT now. Having said that, they are still the ones considered the "Hall of Fame" caliber guys, and anyone who threatens that moniker is immediately looked at in a negative light.
Think of it as people feeling these "young whippersnappers" are encroaching on their lawn, and/or trying to run them out of town...
So for someone like me to say I want to be that guy, and I want to be the one who is the DEFINITION of SCW makes people upset because I'm coming out here, being a guy who very few know or care to know about, and I put myself in an elite category with the greats. From DAY ONE in 2009, I made it clear that I didn't care about who anyone was, because I was going to be better. I knew it would ruffle some feathers, but I'll be honest... The longevity of this JEALOUSY is becoming comical to me. Everyone WANTS to see Jake Starr lose.
Now let me explain why that is. Let me tell you why I am "numero uno" on the hit list. It is because of jealousy, and it's because of another reason, much like jealousy, nobody will ever admit to... They know I am the standard. I am the "bar." I am the guy who everyone compares themself to, not because of any other reason but I am the FUCKING BEST! Think about it... Whether I'm a champion of ANY KIND, or not, who still is talked about ALL OF THE TIME? Who do other superstars go OUT OF THEIR WAY to slam any chance they get? Who is the guy that superstars still BEG to be booked against, all so they can get their hands on him?
Jake fucking Starr...
See what I mean, folks? People know I have done everything I have said I would do, and I'm STILL doing it. You can call me a cocky asshole, and quite frankly you'd probably be pretty accurate, but regardless, I follow up my words with actions. I don't back down from ANYONE or ANY FIGHT. I bring everything I have to every fight I am in, and I do so in a manner that makes others jealous. You can throw me in the ring with Local Wrestler 19, and I will steal the show in a squash. It's just who I fucking am. Nobody backstage likes it because they want that. They want to be the flag bearer. They want to be the "face," and the suits, they want it, too. They don't want some guy, who at a moment's notice will flip a switch to send an organization down a downward spiral leading the way. They want their pretty, prim, proper, marketable sensation. They want someone who will allow them to con more money out of the fans because they created 18 new shirts to sell.
I don't need 18 shirts...
I don't need a daily dose of new merch...
I have about 2 or 3 shirts max, and you know what, they've been the same for five years now, and they still sell fine. I don't have to weasel more money out of people, nor do I care to have my persona, my group, my mentality, my pride whored out there.
So it all makes sense of why everyone has been against me, and it makes sense why I thoroughly enjoy going out there and proving everyone wrong. It's why I will do it again in the Chamber, and more importantly, why when I walk into the locker room after the show, Brandon and I will get in the faces of all the doubters, and call them out. One by one, everyone in the back will be called onto the carpet, and put on the spot. No more of this behind my back, bullshit, political power game... Come Sunday, this entire roster is going Under Attack!
Jake licks his lips, and begins to alter his stance a little. He knows the world is sitting there wondering where this all came from, or how it relates. In his mind, it all relates to the treatment he has received. Every instance of being screwed over is worth pointing out to the masses, for Jake. And while he knows a lot of people may still be unsure of the correlation, he hopes that by trying to tie it directly into the match at Under Attack, things will shape up more clearly.
This Chamber, it's my opportunity to stick it to everyone who has told me to stop demanding my chance at greatness. This is my chance to shut up everyone who thinks that because I know I've EARNED my shot, and EARNED my rematch, I'll earn ANOTHER match to boot. This is my chance to, hell, start another trilogy of matches with the World Champion, all with the goal of getting WHAT I WANT. But I'm not naive, folks... I'm not so ignorant to the fact that I have five pieces of excrement ready to try and stop me from getting what should have been mine from the first place. I still have the "extraneous factors" piece to take into consideration here. None of these other people are just going to hand it to me, and give Jake Starr the win. I won't lie, it would be wonderful if they wanted to do that...
Jake leans in again, and whispers.
So guys, if you decide you want to give me a belated birthday present and hand me a win, I promise thank you cards!
Jake leans back.
Anyway, I know I don't need to be expecting them to do that, and hell, they even have been so gracious to do the obvious with a match like this, and allow their overblown, overinflated, overzealous egos rear their ugly head. In a nutshell, that means they have been caught talking out of their assholes, yet again! From the likes of William "Don't Call Me Blake" Mason, to Shaun Cruze, everyone thinks they have the right clue, the right "inside track," or the right "definitive plan" to win this match, and punch their ticket to the top. The unfortunate thing of all of this is... None of these people have a fucking clue! Nobody realizes what this match requires of a person, or brings out in competitors, like I do. Now, sure, you can lump me in with the rest of the pretenders, but there is still one thing... ONE FUCKING THING... That sets me apart from the rest of these people... I have an edge in there that, much like physics, much like maths, and much like FACTS, cannot be denied...
I HAVE NEVER FUCKING LOST INSIDE THAT CHAMBER!
It's a truth that, regardless of how many lame and pointless excuses people fling out there, cannot be spun in a way that doesn't say, "Jake Starr has never been beaten inside the Chamber." It won't change, either. Not by any of these fools. When it comes to the Chamber and the implications that are involved with winning, it really shows that there is only ONE FUCKING PERSON who deserves the right to call themselves a winner... ME!
The talk that I have heard, up until now, has been comical at best. When you hear Blake Mason go out there and talk about how this Chamber is like he is. He went on a diatribe about how this demonic structure doesn't care about who you are, just like him. Well to that I say, nobody cares who he is either. It's not like he is not in the same boat as he said we are. I mean, if it doesn't care about all of that shit, does the fool not realize all of that applies to him? IT doesn't care that he's done 17 kinds of NOTHING in his career in SCW? IT doesn't care that he has resorted to changing the name he is called by with the HOPES it gives his lame attempt at a career new life. IT doesn't care if he's been in matches that may RESEMBLE the Chamber because in the end, it's not the Chamber. The fact is, this guy is praying for any hope he can find.
Now... I will say that he was right about one thing... I am a selfish prick, and I am a multiple time World Champion. The problem is, me being a selfish prick has nothing to with why I was a multiple time World Champion, and future World Champion at that. I am a selfish prick because I am simply that, but I am a World Champion because I'm one of the best performers in history. I am a multiple time World Champion because I went out there and beat the shit out of World Champion after World Champion. James Exeter... Beaten... Tommy Valentine AND Greg Cherry together... Beaten... Thirteen... Beaten... All of those matches, Blakey should realize, I worked my way into. I wasn't GIFTED those matches. I wasn't handed them on a silver platter like he is with the Chamber match, but he won't admit that. He'll act like he's done something... What, nobody knows, but I bet you a shiny quarter he'll tell you about it! But believe me... Everyone with more than enough brain functionality to actually be LIVING knows that he's full of shit, and completely, fucking, CLUELESS!
But like I said, the idiocy doesn't end there...
No folks... There's more verbal diarrhea!
You also have Shaun Cruze, the one guy who I legitimately think has a right to be in this match. He's someone who has beaten respect into me, and done it twice. Each time he has beaten me, I have openly said he beat me because he was the better man. I have always been quite cordial about his victories over me. Like David Helms, he has always had my number, and I've never said anything otherwise...
Jake cocks an eyebrow.
... But apparently he may want to go get the wax siphoned from deep inside his ear canals because his dumbass is apparently hearing something vastly different...
Jake makes these next comments more direct.
Shaun... I don't know where you're getting this load of bullshit from, but it wasn't from me. The fact is, I have always praised you. I have talked about how you have had my number, and instead of recognizing it like a person who actually LISTENED would have, you think I came out and said you were lucky? You think I have been saying you were lucky? The only thing that you were right on is that I said the story would be different, and I legitimately thought they would. I thought I could go in there and beat you, but I didn't. I didn't run out and say, "ERMAGHERD, SHURN CURZ GOT LURKEY!" No, I went out there and praised you because, up until you decided to show you're kind of an ungrateful asshole, I had respect for you.
It's hard to believe that instead of showing yourself to be this former number one contender, and trying to show you're back to that level, you are just a bonehead who doesn't have a clue what he's talking about. That tells me something quite interesting of you... It tells me that, everything you're trying to say about yourself, and everything you may have accomplished wasn't because you were any kind of standout. It shows me that, while you outright beat me, it wasn't because you were a better fighter. No, you weren't lucky, but when you prove that you're willing to blow smoke, and not even have a fucking clue, you're not better than me. This time, you're not walking into a match with me one on one. This time, you can try and make every reference you want to the fact you've beaten me twice. One thing is 100% certain...
This time, it is NOT the same story!
You're walking into a match where you have to deal with other competitors beating on your bitch ass, a structure that will rip your body to shreds, but more importantly, someone who has CONQUERED it. This isn't a world where Shaun Cruze is at an advantage against Jake Starr, no, it's a match where I have proven that I know how to win, and I will do so again. Inside that Chamber, I will show you that there are places where you're superior, and there are places you're going to be forced to bow down to me, and admit you're not as superior as I am. Inside that Chamber, you are just a commoner. You are a nobody in my world.
So when you go out there, and you think you heard me say that you don't stand a chance to beat me inside the Chamber, understand that unlike me saying you got lucky, this is no figment of your imagination. That one will be fucking reality. That statement will echo in your brain for years because, unlike your fantasy land, it will have really happened, and it will be something EVERYONE HEARD AND SAW.
Jake's comments turn from personal, back to more generic.
There you have it folks... Inevitably, we're going to hear others come out and run their mouths, talk about how wonderful they are, and in some way, explain how their dick would be biggest if we measured. Inevitably once Sunday rolls around, the rulers and tape measures won't mean shit because the inevitable will have happened, the suits will be crying, Dylan Howell will run to Twitter to talk shit about me, and I'll be on my way to vie for another World Title reign.
It's the law of the land...
It's fact...
It's reality!
