With everything that has gone on lately, for Brandon Evans, one wonders whether or not he's felt a sense of being overwhelmed. More importantly, after his first taste of freedom, since his overdose, has he been able to truly come to grips with his mental issues? These questions seemingly have come with positive responses, and now, with the additional help offered by Doctor Drew Pinsky, things could truly continue their turn for the better.
After Jake finished his meeting with Doctor Drew and Brandon's local physician, he immediately made a B-line for the room of his good friend. Jake feels inspired, and feels that with the help of a specialist like Doctor Drew, not only could Brandon fully recover, but he could completely rebuild his life in the public eye. It's something that Jake feels is what Brandon needs. When Brandon fell out of the spotlight, he began his downward spiral into turmoil. It was that, that Jake feels at least, was the beginning of things. So Jake feels if Brandon can get into the spotlight again, then graciously begin an exit, or simply remain in it, things won't turn out the way they did this time around.
But in the long run, only time will tell.
For now, Jake's excitement to spread the news to Brandon is making him hurry faster toward Brandon's room. As he comes around the corner, he's almost out of breath coming in. It's a disturbance that alerts Brandon to Jake's return to his room. Brandon quickly turns around, and sees Jake, slumped over and breathing heavily. Even though Jake isn't quite in the "talking" mood, Brandon wastes no time in inquiring.
Brandon Evans: So... What did the doctor want to talk to you about, that I couldn't be present for? Is everything ok?
Even though he's seriously winded, Jake is able to push the new out.
Jake Starr: No...
Jake lets out a deep breath.
Jake Starr: ... EVerything's alright. The doctor was just curious about how you acted when we went on our "outing." I was surprised they didn't realize that I had taken you across state lines, against their will. When they didn't realize that, it was music to my fucking ears! But more importantly, they have been completely pleased with your progress, and feel that it is time to finally try to figure out what is going to be the right "next step" for you, in your recovery.
Brandon's ears perk up at the sound of possibly getting to that "next step."
Brandon Evans: So what do they think the "next step" will be?
Jake Starr: Well for you, in all honesty, there will always be another "next step" for you to take, on your road to recovery. That's just the nature of the beast. But for now, they decided to bring in another person to help with this new phase...
With those words, in walks Doctor Drew. Jake looks back and smiles at the celebrity physician, then looks back at Brandon.
Jake Starr: ... See man... Doctor Drew is here to help push you through these next phases!
The sight of Doctor Drew completely shocks Brandon, and forces him to take a couple steps back. He begins to feel a bit betrayed by his best friend. He sees Doctor Drew as a sign that Jake, along with the hospital, are staging some form of "intervention" for him. It's a move that makes Brandon take up a confrontational posture. In his mind, he feels that he has made some major progress that doesn't warrant any kind of intervention like this.
After fully processing this entire situation, he immediately shifts his focus directly on Jake. His eyes begin to squint, and his blood begins to boil. He wastes no time unleashing on Jake.
Brandon Evans: What the fuck, man? How could you? How could you do this? Man, I thought we were fucking friends, here?! You do THIS, rather than being fucking honest with me? I mean, THIS, really?! A fucking INTERVENTION?! Seriously?! What in the hell do you fucking hope to accomplish by this, huh? Dude, I've been bending over fucking BACKWARD, trying to show you that I have accepted what happened, and am out to prove it's not EVER going to happen again...
Jake is in a state of complete shock, at this outburst. He doesn't understand where all of this anger is coming from, or in regard to. He's so taken aback from the reaction, he doesn't catch Brandon's thought that this is some sort of staged intervention for him, and just tries to process why Brandon would be so adverse to such an amazing opportunity. This presents such an amazing opportunity for Brandon, and would get his name back out into the public, and in a very positive light.
Jake Starr: ... Man, I think you're missing...
Brandon immediately cuts Jake off, and continues.
Brandon Evans: No! Don't even start with me, Jake... Everyone needs to listen, and listen closely to who I fucking am... What happened several months ago was the stupidest, fucking, decisions that I ever made in my life...
Jake tries to interject again.
Jake Starr: ... Brandon, we...
He is again cut off, immediately.
Brandon Evans: Jake, no, you need to fucking listen... What you were forced to see, shouldn't have ever happened. I have apologized for it COUNTLESS amount of times, and I feel bad about it EVERY FUCKING DAY. I know I fucked up, and I know fucked up bad. With that being said, this isn't your chance to blindside me with some crazy assed idea, or some sob story about why I should run out and check into rehabe.
I know I fucking screwed up!
I am going to have to live with this for the rest of my fucking life, and it isn't something that I need you guys to arrange some "special confrontation" in order to change my outlook. I know I messed up. I know I need to fix it. The fact is, I am changing, and I have done what I need to do in order to begin fixing MY problem. I am not expecting things to magically change overnight, or have anyone immediately believe in me overnight. I was, however, to have my best fucking friend actually step up and give me the support I need, though...
Doctor Drew tries his hand at interjecting into Brandon's rant.
Dr. Drew Pinsky: Brandon, I think you're mistaken on how this is going to work...
Brandon hears Doctor Drew, but doesn't take the time to allow him to continue on either.
Brandon Evans: You know, I don't have to heard about whatever it is you have to say about your little show. The fact is, I have seen your shows. I know how your little shtick works, when it comes to these "Celebrity Rehab" pseudo-reality shows. I know how it all works, and I know how completely shitty it is! I don't need to be thrown into a home with 8 other junkies, who are all probably more lost than me, just so I can understand the err of my ways. I get it...
As Brandon continues his rant, there comes a point when Jake has finally heard enough. He decides it is time to step up, and put the kibosh on this tirade, so things can finally get sorted out.
Jake Starr: BRANDON! SHUT THE HELL UP!
Brandon is completely stunned by Jake's exclamation toward him, and, almost instinctively, goes silent, not realizing he still has more that he was planning on saying.
Jake Starr: ... Dude, you need to shut the fuck up for TWO SECONDS, and just LISTEN. You're flipping your shit over absolutely NOTHING, and if you would shut your pie-hole long enough, you would understand that if you would just quit jumping everyone's shit before hearing things out.
Firstly... This isn't an intervention! An intervention would have happened a long time before this did. This is an opportunity. This is YOUR fucking opportunity to become reunited with humanity, man. You wouldn't have to continue to become a mere memory of what you once were. This is a time for you to get to show that you Aaren't another failed superstar, in the wrestling business, who succumbed to its pressures, and fell into the dark world of being a fucking junkie.
This is your chance to prove you're the exception!
This is your chance to prove you're that feel good story!
Brandon, this isn't something where you have to worry about facing some crazy ultimatum of, "you do this, or else," type of thing. If you would just fucking listen, man, you would realize you just went ape-shit over NOTHING...
Brandon begins to realize that he may have jumped the gun on guessing what was going on. He also begins to realize that if Jake is serious about what this means for him, that this could become his moment to be reintroduced to the world, and repackaged as a new man. This realization starts to calm Brandon down a bit.
Doctor Drew sees this opportunity, of Brandon calming himself down, as his chance to explain the show, and its premise.
Dr. Drew Pinsky: Brandon, I'm very glad to hear that you're conscious of what you have done in the past. That says a lot about your mentality, even before we embark on this path. I want you to understand that this is not the same kind of show that I have been a part of in the past. This time around, we're not putting you with a group of people inside a house. Instead, this is just about you. I want to work with you, one on one. I want the world to not have to pick and choose who to focus on, but to just see one individual, and his story.
So with that being said, it's time to let the world get to know Brandon Evans, and his story.
Jake's eyes go from Doctor Drew, to Brandon. His eyes show a hopeful look, hoping to see Brandon feel the same encouraging feeling he does about this. In seeing this look, and hearing these words from Doctor Drew, Brandon gulps down his saliva that has pooled in his mouth, and exhales a deep breath.
Brandon Evans: Is this legit, and not something that I'm going to be blindsided with some added craziness down the road?
Dr. Drew Pinsky: I assure you, Brandon, that this is legit. This is not some ploy. You will have the freedom to go and come as you please. You're not going to be babysat by anyone. This is all on the honor system. This is a chance for you to have your freedom, but more importantly, have to be accountable for your actions.
Brandon begins to nod slowly.
Brandon Evans: Well... I guess let's do it...
In Brandon's gut, he feels a bit uneasy due to the fact he is unaware of how everything will transpire. Jake sees this uneasiness in Brandon, and approaches him, and gives his friend a "bro hug," hoping it will calm his nerves some.
Jake Starr: ... It's going to be alright, man. I'm proud of you. This is going to begin that healing process with everyone, and most importantly, for you. Besides... This will sure beat the hell out of living in a damn hospital.
Brandon chuckles.
Brandon Evans: Probably will be cheaper, too...
With his last little joke, he realizes he finally gets to begin packing up his stuff, and migrate to somewhere a little more "home-like." He begins to hear more about the program, and realize that things could be good for him, long term. He hopes that things continue to go down this positive path.
Jake sees the positivity as hopeful and cannot wait to see how things progress, especially with the assistance of Doctor Drew.
Jake Starr: I find it funny that people thought that I wasn't serious. I think it's funny that people thought that I wouldn't be willing to take things into my own hands, and do things my way. When I said that I would be doing everything necessary to get my name across as the BIGGEST FUCKING THING in SCW, and the PINNACLE MEMORY of everyone at Rise to Greatness, people thought I was just doing what some of have believed I always do, and that's just run my mouth.
Nobody realized the TRUTH that was behind my words...
When Breakdown rolled around, I was going out there to fight some nobody, and I was also going out there to make a statement. I wanted everyone to see what my mentality truly was. See, in the past, my mentality has been knowing that I was either on my way to the top, and trying to get my chance to vie for the World Championship, or I was in the hunt, and I knew I deserved a shot. This time, my mentality was different... I knew I wasn't in that comfort zone, but nevertheless, I wanted my moment at Rise to Greatness. I wanted my chance to main event the biggest event in the industry. Sadly, at Taking Hold of the Flame, it didn't happen.
So... Everything's over, right?
WRONG, ASSHOLE!
That's why I went into Breakdown, and began to do whatever I wanted, and make people REMEMBER it. I beat that nobody, and then I turned my attention to Gabourey Sidibe's stunt double, Greg Cherry, and I wanted him to realize his little attack on me wasn't going to happen again. Not only did I want to convey that message of, well, reassurance, that his hopes of getting me again weren't going to happen, but I called upon the most trustworthy friend I've ever had to assist... Chairee! She is a friend who has been with me through some good and bad times, and the best part is, she illicit FEAR from dickheads like Cherry.
Seriously... The way he high-tailed it out of that arena, I could have sworn he hired a stunt double. I mean who in this lifetime has EVER seen Greg running THAT fast ANYWHERE, especially when it's not an alert that catering has arrived. But regardless, he ran like a pussy, and then tried to sneak back in. My favorite part of that "plan" of his, was my own. Seriously, his dumbass thought I didn't have some "spotters" around that arena, letting me know if he pulled that shit? So when I found out he was there, it was just a matter of time before I pounced again.
Jake begins to chuckle.
... And I have to say that the look on his face when he realized he was caught, AGAIN, made me so incredibly happy. The fact he tried to hide behind referees and officials, like he did, showed me that his goal of trying to recapture his career high was something he knows he isn't going to be able to successfully do. He knows that any hopes he may have of being "great" are gone, and he's desperate. He knows he couldn't come back to SCW and just do his normal shtick of asking for title shots, so he's trying to fast track that argument through me.
It is not happening fatboy!
More importantly, what is not happening is Mr. D's hopes of "controlling" me. See, when he made his threat to me, he showed me that his mind is simply on the "control" side of SCW again. It's much like when I first came into SCW, when the Infection was running rampant. He is out to try and throw his weight around, and make it "his show." He does so by stupid fucking threats, and intimidation.
NEWS FLASH DOUCHE... IT DIDN'T WORK IN 2009, IT WILL NOT WORK NOW!
See, when Daddy D decided to try and take off his Underroos, and boss me around, he officially walked back onto ice he failed to stand up on in the past. I was merciful in stopping when I did at Breakdown, but let's be frank here... Daddy D and I both know that I could do WHATEVER THE FUCK I wanted to do, and he would NOT remove me from Rise to Greatness! Why? How could I believe I'm that invincible? The fact is, he knows who his big draws in, and he knows what match the PEOPLE want to see most. They still want the match that they were SCREWED out of at Riding the Lightning, Jake Starr and Syren, but since they are deprived once again, and he knows the whole Syren/Shilo thing was run into the ground LAST YEAR, he has to protect me and his investment of a possible "big draw" between Greg and I. He knows that his hopes and dreams of a legendary Rise to Greatness lie with me, and so he wants to make sure he tries to get the hype up, without disappointing the world yet again.
So D... Understand this... Your little "ultimatum" fell on deaf ears. Your little desperate attempt to control me failed once, and it's going to fail again. I don't play by your fucking rules, when you are the one who helped take the moments I wanted for this pay-per view away from me. You are one of those guys who told me that I couldn't have that moment that would allow me to outshine the rest. So because of that, you can try and "command" me, but you know that never works out well. You know you tried that in 2009 with Taking Hold of the Flame, with you BARRED me from being in that match. You decided that my entry was not going to happen, and what did I do? How did I respond to your "commandment?"
Don't remember?
Let me refresh your memory...
Think back to that pay-per view, in the middle of that match, the buzzer sounds, the fans look toward the entry way, and who emerges? ME! That's right... Not only did I enter, I cleaned house. I had nothing to lose, so I entered myself into the match on several different occasions. This was all after I took out your boy Savior, and left him in a pile of his own excrement.
So think about that going forward D... You think about the fact that I have defied your "will" and your "decrees" in the past, and I'm not going to hesitate to do it again. This is my fucking time, and in 2013, it will be MY FUCKING PAY-PER VIEW! Your hopes of having order will come to a fucking end, and you'll be forced to do one of two things... Give me what I deserve, or watch me destroy everything!
The look in Jake's eye shows he is feeling a sense of seriousness like never before. His feeling is that he was purposefully kept from being in a match that would truly overshadow the main event because of the slim hopes that it can truly "deliver." He knows that should he have won the United States Championship, and been the latest to truly achieve "Supremacy," the odds of people remembering who won between Syren and Shilo would have been slim to none. It's a move that Jake feels was pure politics, a growing theme with SCW of late, and a trend that has been one Jake has rallied against many times in the past, with other federations. He also feels that management has been trying to downplay him, by putting him in some pretty low-profile matches as of late. At the last Breakdown, it was against Chef Cummings, and this time, it's against a man named Mr. Lament. This downplaying of his career has lead Jake to an even angrier, and less tolerable tone.
... But let's get away from Daddy D and his devious antics, and focus on what's the world is going to see, and most likely forget, next. At Breakdown, Jake Starr will walk in again, with absolutely nothing on the line, nothing to lose, and more importantly, against some nobody who is trying to make a name for himself. Before I was fighting off against a non-racist Paula Deen, and now I'm facing off against a guy whose name is synonymous with mourning. It's a guy named Mr. Lament. Who he is, what he stands for, what his aspirations are, all of that is completely foreign to me, and honestly, I give two shits about it.
Jake's voice shifts to that of a child.
"But Jake, that isn't very 'superhero-y' of you to say!"
Jake's face takes the look of, what is seemingly becoming a tradition for him, and looks "not impressed."
Listen... For too long I have heard people trying to typecast me into the role of the "super hero," or the quintessential "good guy," and if I strayed away, it tended to get some negative reviews by the "promo critics" of the world. So with that being said, I'm going to let the world in on a secret of pro wrestling. That's right kids... It's time for...
Jake's voice takes on an echo and reverb sound.
JAKE STARR BREAKS DOWN THE FOURTH WALL
The echo and reverb go away.
Folks, in professional wrestling we're asked to try and be one of two things... Faces or heels.
The "faces" are the guys who go out there, pander to everyone, act like the goody-goody we all hated in school, and suck up in every possible way imaginable. They talk about how much they love whatever town they're in, how they're going to party next to scenic landmarks in said town, and all-in-all do whatever it takes to make people love them. It's like Rocky Balboa, when he beats Ivan Drago. All of the Ruskis end up standing and cheering for the American who embodies everything that is good in the world.
Think of faces as the "Prince Charmings" who are at the end of every "Happily Ever After" book you read to your kid.
Then you have the heels. These are your villains, your bad guys, your evil doers, the guys who will go out and actually do whatever it takes to insult every single person in the arena, and make themselves out to be better than each and everyone else alive. Sadly, a lot of the time they double as the "try too hard" guys, who literally everyone wants to slap because they're just tired of hearing their shit.
With both of these types of people, though, there is one commonality. They're both FAKE AS HELL! Nobody is their real self, and they feel that, much like underwear, they can change this outlook at the drop of a hat. Look at David Helms, for example. For YEARS he was the epitome of good in the world, and then once he realized nobody cared, and he got bored, POOF, he was the bad guy, and everyone paid attention again. I promise you that if everyone ever forgets him as a "bad guy" he will shock the world, and be good again.
It's a truth in this business nobody ever admits to.
Nobody in this business is ever themselves. They're all fakes. That's where I differ. Some days I can go out there and I legitimately am the guy everyone loves. I don't try and overdo it, I'm just who I am. The next day I could feel like shit, and want to beat the holy-living fuck out of someone, and I'm not going to pretend to be something I'm not, and not do it. I'm going to stay true to myself. I am not going to be this caricature of what someone else thinks Jake Starr should be, but I'm going to be ME!
Because of that truth, that's why I say I don't give a rat's ass about guys like Lament or Chef Cummings. They mean NOTHING to me, and they do NOTHING for my goal of being the biggest thing people remember at Rise to Greatness. They just get in my way, and serve a purpose of letting me explain to the world what WILL happen come July 28th.
So with that being said, I hope Mr. Lament watched Breakdown last week, and saw EXACTLY what happened with the last asshole who was thrown in my path because it was a goddamn hint as to what is in store for him. I know this dolt likes to saunter out there in a brass chest plate, and act like he's some gladiator, but all he is, is a walking embodiment of a "Roman War Helmet..."
Jake chuckles a bit.
... If you don't know what that is, folks, look it up!
But nevertheless, this guy is simply someone I will make sure to treat just as equally as I have everyone else. That means fists, flips, whips, chains, chairs, and an ass beating the likes of which he has never faced... And I would believe with his little "get-up" he's tasted some "ass beatings" in his life... But I digress!
I know people have gotten pissed about me "burying" people in the past, but honestly why shouldn't I just speak my mind about this guy, just like I did about others? It may not be popular, it may not make people smile, but like I said, I am who I am. This guy is a nobody, and he will remain a nobody. He could very well turn into a someone some day, but the fact is, today isn't that day, Breakdown isn't that day, and until he quits trying to play dress up, and begins acting like a fucking grown up, no day going forward will be that day either.
Face it... Nicey-nice Jake Starr wasn't doing much, and angry Jake had about the same luck, so I am just going to do things the way I do them best... However I fucking see fit. If it's by the "right way," by hook or by crook, I could care less. I'm out there to be the best, and to win. No way to hide it. This business is about wins and losses, and not about anything else. People don't judge your career by anything but what you accomplished, and I'm out to do it all. I will take this match, and I will beat this motherfucker into submission. He'll leave battered and bruised, but most importantly, he'll leave a fucking loser.
Start grieving for your chances of being a somebody, dick... You're the only one who will give a damn about it!
